I shake my head.

“Good,” he says, like everything’s already decided. He leans in, presses kisses along my jaw, then murmurs, “Because I’m not done being around you yet.”

“You want to keep me?” I tease.

“I’m thinking about it,” he teases back. “I’m thinking forever if that’s okay with you.”

And that’s more than okay with me.

CHAPTER 13

***

Logan

It’s late. Quiet settles over the office like dust—still, soft, and just a little too comfortable. I’m wrapping up some notes before the weekend. Half-focused. Half-thinking about Lola.Mostlythinking about Lola.

Her hoodie’s still in my passenger seat. Her earrings are on my bathroom counter. Her playlist—the playlist—is still saved to my phone. But it's changed. I noticed. She hasn’t said anything, but some of the rage anthems have disappeared. Replaced with softer stuff. A few love songs. One that she swore made heremotionally itchy.

She’s not subtle. But she’s not trying to be. And I like it that way.

My phone buzzes and goes straight to voicemail. I check the message when it dings several minutes later. The audio kicks in mid-Lola chaos.

“—I swear to God, if you leave me, I’m emotionally collapsing into a pint of overpriced gelato, and nobody can stop me—”

My lips twitch. Darby laughs in the background, full-volume and unfiltered.

“I’m not leavingyou, I’m going to New York for twelve weeks, and you’re being dramatic.”

“I’m not! You’re literally abandoning me for your dreams!”

There’s the rustling of a bag, something clattering to the floor, and then more dramatics.

“Okay, okay, but like—what if I die alone?”

“You’re dating Logan.”

“What if he realizes he can do better?!”

“Then I’ll haunt him. I swear. Don’t test me.”

More laughter. A bark of a laugh from Lola I know too well. Followed by, “Oh geez—did I call someone? Is this recording?!”

End of message.

I chuckle. This is pure Lola. Unfiltered. And somehow, I love it more than I ever thought possible.

I open my texts and type.

You butt dialed me. Again. Darby is moving?– Logan

Yeah. Internship of a lifetime. She’s leaving in two weeks. But I’m fine. Totally fine. Just, you know... emotionally fragile and mildly clingy.–Lola

Are you looking for a new roommate?– Logan

You volunteering?–Lola

I smirk and lean back in my chair.
