Yeah, just the one. She’s 8 and spends the school year with her mom in Philly. I assumed you knew, not sure why? Maybe because Sam knows.
SAHAR
Aww!
What more would she say after that? Specifying her mom’s house likely meant she and Jay weren’t together, but Sahar wasn’t one to make assumptions. Also, sheshouldn’tbe making assumptions because this wasn’t anything other than the beginning of a new friendship.
She shrugged off the thoughts, opened the file she’d downloaded onto her iPad, and began reading.
INT. BACK AT THE OFFICE - NIGHT
Henry, hunched over at his desk, brushes his fingers over the ransom note again. Katherine is gone. It dawns on him. Over and over again.
MARK
Henry, you have to go home.
We won’t accomplish shit if you don’t rest.
Henry shakes his head. Mark doesn’t get it. No one gets it.
HENRY
I’m going to find Katherine.
I’m going to bring her home.
He snatches the note off the desk and walks off.
END OF EPISODE
The thoughts running through Sahar’s mind were agonizing. Was Henry going to find Katherine? Was she alive? Was Mark somehow involved? Fuck, she wanted to keep going, but she’d been so burned in the past that she desperately wanted to spoil herself. The investment she felt in Katherine was inexplicable, strangely visceral. She needed to know.
Oh, this was an abomination. Peeking at the ending instead of experiencing the narrative as it was meant to be consumed was sacrilegious. But she couldn’t help it. Desperate times and all that. Sahar searched for the finale and skimmed through.
Dead.
Katherine was dead.
What the actual fuck.Why?
Studios wanted heavier content; she understood that, butrefused to accept it. Jay did say he wanted her feedback, so after some thought, she texted him. Again. She’d tell him her honest opinion, lay down how much she cared about these characters already, and question why he’d made the decision to kill off Katherine.
SAHAR
So…
I have some thoughts on Every Speck of Dust. I did something I rarely do, and I read the finale after finishing the first ep.
JAY
That’s a crime.
SAHAR
I know. But look, I have a doctor’s appointment on Tuesday and PT afterward before work. What time does your shift end? I’d love to pick your brain about this in person.
