After arriving at her apartment and getting out of the Uber, they’d been quiet in the elevator, his hands in his pockets. Tension rose with every floor. She fumbled with the keys for a split second before pushing the old, white wooden door open. Inside, Sahar kicked off her heels and footed them away toward the front of their shoe rack.

Turning back to Jay, she locked her eyes with his. “Do you want something to drink?” she asked.

“Not exactly,” he said, mere millimeters away from her.

She smirked, narrowing her eyes. Every fragment of her magnetized toward him. Pulling.Begging.

Sahar closed the distance between them, and Jay’s hand flew to her cheek, cupping her face as he pressed his lips to hers. It was slow at first, luscious. Staggering tugs and gentle sweeps.

Jay kissed her like she was air—a lifeline.

Hope. Sanctuary. Something sacred etched in his every move.

It was electrifying, so very right in a way that surpassed the workings of her wildest imagination. Their breaths grew heavier, heat rising between them like rapid fire.

He wrapped one arm around her waist, walking her backward against the door, where he pinned her body with the lightest of thuds.

They stayed pressed to each other for a brilliant beat—kissing, tasting, savoring. His tongue waltzed with hers like they’d been partners for years, trained and honed so intimately that there was no routine too complex for them to master.

She bit his bottom lip, and he groaned in response.

Tucked in between the wood and his large frame, her world burned hotter than the summer heat.

Jay’s lips traveled down to her jaw, toward the curve of her neck, where he placed an open-mouthed kiss at her pulse point, making her entire body scorch. A low moan bounced from her throat when he bit down and sucked at the same spot.

Sahar felt him hardening against her, and her nipples tightened in response, everything in her demanding for more.Leave a mark. Please.

His kisses grew needier, matching her own wants in an equal race they were both set on winning.

Another slow sweep of his tongue along her lips, a bite and a kiss like it’d been a constant with them. Sahar slid her fingers into his shirt and dragged them up along his torso where hard planes of muscle clenched beneath her touch. She wanted to press her tongue along the ridges there, bite down, and chase the sting with kisses every time.

He seized her mouth again, once, twice, three times. Familiar. Frenzied. Freeing.

Dropping his forehead to hers, he blew out a heavy breath. “God, Sahar. I want you so bad.”

She crawled her hands around his back, ready to yank the bloody dress shirt off him. There were too many layers between them. “Is that not what’s happening here?” she asked, dropping a small kiss along the bridge of his nose.

Jay sighed, something unreadable appearing in his eyes. Palming her cheek with the most delicately mind-melting touch, he said, “But what isthis? I can’t just fuck you and walk away. I’ve wanted you for too long now.”

Oh.She wasn’t sure what she expected him to say, but it certainly wasn’tthat.

“I don’t… I don’t know,” Sahar tried to say. “I don’t want it to be a one-time thing, but I’m also not surewhatI want.” A flicker of sadness squared itself in his gaze.

She drew her fingers out of his shirt and curled them around the nape of his neck.

Meet him halfway, her heart and body pleaded.Try. One more time. She ran her fingers into the short strands of his hair, holding his gaze. “What Idoknow is that I like you, Jay. So, whatever this is, it’s certainly not meaningless. Can we just…figure the rest out later?”

He placed a quick peck on her lips. “Yeah. We can.” Another kiss, deeper this time.

Parting, Sahar added, “I’m also on the pill, and I trust you, so whether you’d like to use a condom or not is up to you.”

He nodded, locking his eyes with her once more before skating his lips back down to her neck, toward her collarbone.

Lifting his hands underneath the shoulder of the purple blazer she wore, Jay tugged it off and set it down on the small, glass-top gold table near the door. He lowered a strap down and kissed her bare shoulder blade in a slow, deliberate manner, making her heart do some sort of delicious twist. He repeated the same dizzying motion on the other side.

Between the subtle scrape of his scruff and the softness of his lips, Sahar was sure that being kissed by Jay would swiftly become a safe harbor she’d always return to.

A moan tumbled out of her when his tongue darted back into her mouth again. Hepushed up against her—the brief stroke of friction already substantial. Her head fell back against the door as his hands wrapped around her backside, kneading her ass.
