“I—” As the doors to a small elevator open, I jump, and he guides us inside. He presses PH and swipes his card. The moment the doors shut, I’m pressed against the cool metalwall. It’s a welcome contrast to my entire body burning with need for this man.

He leans in, our lips nearly brushing. “Tell me to stop.”

“No,” I breathe, desperate for him to kiss me again.

Tracing his thumb along my jaw, he slides his fingers into my hair and brings my lips to his. It’s cautious but playful as he teases the seam of my lips with his tongue, begging for entry. I grip the lapels of his jacket, pulling him impossibly closer. For years, I imagined what it would be like to have one little taste of him. Now that I’ve experienced it first-hand, I don’t know that I’ll be able to walk away from this in the morning—at least not unscathed.

He groans into my mouth, and his hard cock sandwiched between us has me wanting to drop to my knees to free it from his slacks. Even through the layers of fabric, there’s an undeniable twitch against me. He’s thick and long, making me reconsider my “no sex” rule. As much fun as a one-night stand would be, with Will’s declaration… There are big feelings involved. I can separate love and sex, but part of me doesn’t want to.

The doors open with a ding, but Will doesn’t stop kissing me. No one gets in and the doors shut again. The elevator continues to ascend and I chuckle, “I think we missed your floor.”

“That was the lobby. Someone must have gotten on another one.” With his forehead pressed against mine, he adds, “We’re riding all the way to the top.”

“What about dinner? It’ll be here soon.”

“The staff here personally drop off packages and food delivery to my door.”

“Well, aren’t you fancy, Mr. Darling,” I tease.

“You have no idea. Prepare to be wooed, Miss Davis.”

CHAPTER 7

WILL

Everything is out in the open—Vicky would be proud. Having to hide how I’ve felt for years turned me into one of the biggest assholes. Elle didn’t deserve it, and I intend to make it up to her.

With my face between her legs, to start.

The elevator doors open to a small hallway leading to my apartment. Nine thousand square feet is entirely too much space for one person. I’m not getting any younger and bought it with the intention of starting a family here. Except I don’t want a model-turned-housewife who hires a nanny to raise my two-point-five kids. I need someone who has their own life and passions—someone who’ll call me on my shit. Even if we have a nanny, I want my wife and I to raise our kids together, as partners.

I only let go of Elle’s hand long enough to retrieve my key card, then it’s right back in mine—where it belongs. I meant what I said about calling Human Resources in the morning. After that kiss, I refuse to believe this will be one night. If I have it my way, it’ll be get to keepher forever.

The door clicks shut behind us and she gasps. “This place is incredible. And that view…”

“Thanks.” I kick off my shoes, then drop to one knee to help Elle out of hers. “But the view from down here is even better.”

She rolls her eyes and huffs a small laugh as she steps out of her heels, bracing herself on my shoulders. “Very funny, Darling.”

“It wasn’t a joke.” I place her shoes next to mine and rise to my feet. Opening the coat closet, I take out a hanger and strip off my jacket, stowing it for now. I don’t want to spend a single moment away from her, even if it would only take me a few minutes to run it upstairs to my bedroom. “Come on. I’ll give you a quick tour before dinner arrives.” Taking her hand again, I lead her into the open-concept living room and kitchen.

“It doesn’t look like you cook much,” she chuckles, and I release her to let her explore. She opens my fully stocked fridge, then glances over her shoulder at me. “Do you use a service for this, or are you extra bougie and have your own chef for meal prep?”

I stuff my hands in my pockets and shrug. “Neither. I’ll admit, I have my groceries delivered, but I make everything for the week myself on Tuesdays. Once a month, I do freezer meals. I actually enjoy cooking.”

“Freezer meals?” Her brows pinch, and I gesture with a nod to the freezer. She opens it and pulls out a large tri-tip in a glass storage container with seasoning and fire-roasted vegetables. “What’s this?”

“That’s dinner tomorrow night. I’ll put it in the fridge tonight, then tomorrow morning it’ll go in a crockpot to cook while I’m training. When I get home, I’ll shred it up and make tacoswith high-protein tortillas my friend made for me. I’ll have leftovers to use for whatever I want for lunch this week. Perfect for sandwiches or bowls with cauliflower rice.”

“You’re serious?”

“Absolutely. I’m looking forward to Thursday this week because I have chicken marinating in there. Some have barbecue sauce—don’t tell my trainer—and the rest have buffalo seasoning. I’m going to grill them up for next week.”

Her smile widens as she lets out a soft laugh, placing the glass with the tri-tip in the refrigerator. “Well, now you won’t have to remember to move it later.”

I almost invite her to come by for dinner after work, but I can't bring myself to do it. The last thing I want to do is scare her away.

She eyes the staircase to the left and asks curiously, “What’s up there?”
