It’s delicious.
It’s erotic.
It’s beautiful.
My hand snakes down to return to my ministrations. Thea’s mouth pops open as her head falls back onto my shoulder.
“No.” I shake my head. “Watch yourself come.”
Her eyes meet mine in the mirror, gifting me with being able to watchandfeel her shatter. I’m not far behind, and I try my damndest to keep my eyes open so I can continue witnessing her undoing.
It takes a bit for our breathing to even out, but once we’ve both come down, I turn us back to our original position, relishing in how Thea immediately curls into my chest. We sit there naked and sweaty for several minutes until Thea finally pulls herself off to run to the bathroom.
I pick our clothes up and follow her, waiting as she cleans up and gets dressed. Everything gets packed up and put away for the night, but before we leave, I stop Thea and turn us both toward the mirror again.
Wrapping my arms around her from behind, I whisper, “You’re beautiful.” I punctuate it with a kiss on her exposed neck. “And talented.” Kiss. “And funny.” Kiss. “And an amazing mother.” I look into her reflection for this last one. “Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this.”
She turns, kissing me back now. A reply that doesn’t require any talking.
I’m debating sneaking Thea into my room for the night when my phone rings. It’s Mom calling which is unusual for this time of night.
I answer with, “Everything okay?”
“Yes, yes, my cabbage! Everything is great—you’re about to be an uncle, again!”
“Holy shit, Bex is in labor?” I ask.
Mom’s screech of excitement causes me to pull the phone from my ear. “Yes! I’m headed to the city first thing in the morning. She wants you to come, but I told her I wasn’t sure if you’d want to leave Thea.”
As if being summoned, Thea appears in my bedroom door. “I’ll talk to her and call you back, yeah?”
“Sounds good, dear. I love you!”
“Love you, too, Mom.”
I hang up and turn toward Thea.
“Bex is having the baby,” I say, patting the bed next to me.
Thea jumps up and down a few times before settling down on top of the comforter. “Oh! That’s so exciting! Go—you have to go.”
“Well, that’s what I wanted to talk to you about. Are you alright with me being gone for a few days?”
She gives me aSeriously?look. “Yes, Jules. We’ll be fine. And hopefully the apartment will be done soon, and we’ll be out of your hair.”
I can feel my automatic grimace at those words. I don’t want the Rose family out of my hair. I want themmorein my hair. Or home. Whatever.
Leaning over, I plant a kiss on Thea’s forehead. “We’ll talk about that when I’m back.”
She smiles sweetly up at me. “Okay.”
We lay next to each other in bed talking about nothing until we both fall asleep. I wake up when I feel the bed dip.
“Where’re you going?” I mumble.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you,” she whispers. “Go back to sleep. I have to go to my room in case Chloe tries to find me in the middle of the night.”
I pull her into me for one last sleepy kiss before she tiptoes out.
