I help her stand, lacing her fingers in mine. Ready to start this chapter of our lives, together.

In hindsight, dinner was a bad idea. I’m so horny, a strong breeze could make me come. Pair that with the looks Jules keeps giving me.

He knows.He knows.

It’s like I told him I loved him and his restraint finally snapped. He just licked his fucking lips like a porn star.

Okay, so he was just eating dinner, but holy hell it was pornographic.

Conversation has continued around us, and everyone is either politely ignoring me panting like a dog in heat or they’re completely oblivious.

I’m hoping it’s the latter.

“So,” Ben starts, looking between Bex and Anders. “Are you going to tell us why you’re here?”

“For fuck’s sake—sorry.” She looks at Chloe, who has already narrowed her eyes at Bex’slanguage. “We are?—”

“We’re moving back!” Anders cuts in, practically bouncing in his seat.

The room erupts. “Well, shit!” Gabe jumps up, engulfing Anders in the biggest bro hug I’ve ever seen. “Hell yeah! I’ve missed having my best friend around.”

“And your sister,” Bex adds. Gabe ignores her.

Elaine looks elated but also like she already knew the big news. “All my cabbages back together again!”

Anders claps Gabe on the back a few times before sitting back down next to his wife. “Hawthorne wants me to come back as an artist in residence, and we knew we couldn’t refuse an offer to come back to Sassafras.”

“That’s amazing,” Jules congratulates. “I’m happy for you both.”

Bex covers his hands on top of the table. “Thanks, JuJu,” she replies. “Added bonus: the girls will get to grow up close to their new cousins.”

I don’t miss that Bex said cousins, plural, and again I’m grateful for how the Bardot family has embraced both me and Chloe.

“Do you already have a house?” Gabe asks.

“Not yet,” Anders says. “This has been in the works for a bit, but I had to figure out some contract stuff withHercules, to make sure they could replace me. It was time, we did the whole New York thing, and we’re ready to come home. We weren’t sure if we were going to be able to make it work so we’re staying at Elaine and Hugo’s until we find a place.”

“Hell yes,” Gabe replies. “Sleepover at Mom and Dad’s!”

Elaine looks like she might pass out, she’s so excited.

Bex looks down at her phone. “Oh, Luci’s FaceTiming! I told her and Riz to call me so I could tell them the news.”

All eyes go to Gabe, and I make a mental note to ask Jules about that later.

“I’ll just…” She excuses herself into the kitchen.

Ben stands, tapping his glass, unnecessarily given that we’re already quiet. “I also have an announcement.”

Cole, who is sitting directly across from him, says, “No. You don’t.”

“On the contrary, Collette. I absolutely do.” His grin is a little maniacal.

I lean over to Jules and whisper, “Should we be worried?”

“Probably,” he replies, with a smirk.

“As many of you know, Cole recently turned thirty,” Ben continues.
