“Nope,” Nails said, moving on.“Your turn.”
Riley smiled.“Favorite body part…on me.”
“I can only choose one?”He asked, grinning.
“Pick wisely, SEAL.”
“I’m going to say your mouth.Because it’s smart, sharp, and when it’s not teasing me, it’s doing things I can’t stop thinking about.”
Riley’s mouth dropped open, and Nails laughed.
“Hey, I’m being honest.My turn.What’s your guilty pleasure?”
She bit her lip, clearly debating what her answer was going to be.“I watch crime documentaries to fall asleep.”
Nails stared at her in mock horror.“You fall asleep to murder?”
“Hey, it’s oddly comforting.”
“You are terrifying,” he said, laughingly.“But I love it.”
They kept going, their favorite vacation spot, favorite drink, favorite song, until the questions slowed and the silence settled between them.
He glanced down at her.“You know, I can’t wait to tell my mom about us.She’s going to be over the moon.”
She snorted a laugh.“I’m sure she will be.She was trying to play matchmaker before I even met you.”
Nails’ eyes widened.“What?When?”
“Remember the day you called her and told her that you were coming to visit?”
He nodded.Then it clicked.“Wait!Were you the neighbor who stopped by while I was on the phone with her?”
Riley laughed.“Yep.That was me.I was bringing her groceries.
“She’s probably not even going to be surprised.”
“Why do you say that?”
He grinned, scratching the back of his neck.“Because she kinda figured out I had a crush on you.”
Riley stared at him.“Seriously?When?”
“By the time we made it downstairs from the attic, I couldn’t take my eyes off you.I think she and Snow were having too much fun at my expense.”
Riley laughed.“I love your mom.”
“She definitely loves you already,” he told her with certainty.
“You know, I think there might be a little romance brewing between your mom and Russell.”
“What?What makes you say that?”Nails asked.
Riley grinned.“When I was talking to Russell earlier, I asked him how your mom was doing, and he said she was doing just fine.But then he mentioned they had dinner the other night.And when I went to press him on it, he changed the topic.”
Nails wasn’t sure how to react to that.After his dad had left, his mom never dated anyone.Russell seemed like an okay guy.But he was very protective of his mom.
As if knowing what his thoughts were, Riley squeezed his hand.
