“Uh-huh,” she said with a grin.“And mowable.”
Nails shook his head.He looked as if he was torn between kissing her senseless or tickling her again, or maybe both.
“Say mower again,” he warned, with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
She knew she was poking the bear. But she couldn’t stop.“Mower,” she whispered.
There was a moment of complete silence as Nails looked deep into her eyes before he growled and dove for her neck.He dragged his mouth along her skin, sending her into a fit of laughter that quickly turned into something far more breathless.
“Mmhmm,” she murmured. Her breath hitched as his hands started wandering her body and making her feel good.“I knew that would get you revving,” she said, egging him on.She felt needy. She wanted him inside her so bad.
“Keep it up, baby,” he muttered as his lips brushed her shoulder.“You know, the mower’s cool. But does it make you scream and beg to mow the yard again five minutes later?”
Riley’s laughter melted into a moan as the teasing stopped, and the heat turned up.
She may not get the mower anytime soon. But she did get the ride of her life.
Nails lay on his back as Riley lay sprawled across him.Their bodies were covered in sweat from the heat they had just created together. The room still carried the warmth of their earlier passion.
Every time he looked at her, he had to remind himself she was real, and even crazier, she was his.
He thought about the news she shared earlier. He couldn’t believe that she was actually giving up her job and moving to Virginia Beach to be with him. That made his love for her grow even more.
She let out a contented sigh and tilted her head to glance at him.
“You’re thinking too hard,” Riley whispered, her voice drowsy but laced with playful suspicion. She shifted, her leg brushing a very sensitive area in a way that had him instantly responding.
“Just appreciating the fact you’re mine,” he murmured, trailing his hand down her back, stopping just above her ass.
She smirked.“Appreciating or mentally planning round three?”
“Same thing,” he grinned, about to roll on top of her, when his phone vibrated on the nightstand.
He groaned and reached for his phone.“If that’s Snow, I’m gonna throat punch him.”
But it wasn’t Snow, it was Tink.
He blinked and sat up a little straighter, swiping to answer.“Hey, Tink.”
“Hey, Nails.First, I heard the news.Riley’s staying, huh?You locking it down?”
Nails grinned, glancing at Riley as she rolled her eyes playfully and tugged the blanket up.“That’s the plan.”
“Good for you,” Tink said, then his tone shifted.“I also called because I’ve got an update on Riley’s mom’s case.”
That sobered him fast. And it was obvious that Riley could hear Tink’s deep voice on the end, because she sat up the second she heard those words.
Tink continued, “Think you and Riley can meet me at my office in an hour? There’s something you’ll want to see.”
“We’ll be there,” Nails said, already reaching for his pants.
Riley’s teasing smile had vanished, replaced with something harder, or maybe it was hope.
So much for round three. But maybe… just maybe… this next round would bring her closure.
CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE
The conference room was too quiet. The low hum of the AC, the faint ticking of the sleek wall clock, and the occasional creak of the leather chair beneath Riley were the only sounds.
