Nails flipped them off over his shoulder and disappeared into his bedroom, muttering under his breath.

This mission was already dangerous, and Riley Aiken was hands down the biggest threat of them all.

CHAPTER ELEVEN

Adam Gallo sat alone in his office. The blinds were drawn halfway to keep the Hong Kong afternoon sun from blinding him.

The past few days, he had been knee deep in sorting through applications and interviewing for bouncers and hostesses for the club.

Thankfully, Erik, his head of security for the club, handled the two interviews earlier for the open bouncer positions. He had filled the two bouncer positions earlier that morning. Both hires were great candidates, especially the one, Carson Little, an American.Erik told him that the guy was on the quiet side, but that he was physically fit and could handle crowds. The only red flag Adam noticed about the guy was that he had previously worked for a security firm as a bodyguard for an executive at a bank.Security firms are known to have extensive contacts with law enforcement. They would just need to keep an eye on him for a while and make sure he wasn’t there for other purposes.

Adam leaned forward in his chair and rested his elbows on the desk, his fingers steepled beneath his chin.He stared at the computer screen in front of him.His lips curled slightly, a slow, calculating smile taking shape as he scrolled through his next interviewee’s information.

Riley Taylor, twenty-six years old, interning at a tech firm in the city. She had a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Miami. The family is wealthy and from the Miami area as well. She volunteered for many non-profits in the community.

He clicked open the pictures attached to her resume. He leaned back in the chair, admiring the image. Her long, blonde hair fell like silk around her gorgeous face. She had full lips, painted red in one photo, and a soft pink in another. But it was her eyes that captivated him. They were blue and bold, which could make a man’s heart stop with just a glance. She looked like sin in designer heels, and from the way her body filled out the dress in the photo from her Instagram account, she was built like temptation wrapped in lace.

Men would love her.Hell, he already did, and she hadn’t even walked through the door yet.

Adam rubbed his thumb along his jaw.He wondered why someone like her was looking for work in his club.Coming from a wealthy family, he imagined she wasn’t short on cash.Maybe something else lay under the surface—rebellion, or perhaps she was just looking for a thrill.Whatever her reason, he could work with it.If she performed well, she could land more lucrative roles that he offered to his elite VIP customers. And maybe, in time, she’d be worth something more.

Just as he was about to close her file, his cell buzzed sharply across his desk.He looked at it and saw it was a private number. He picked it up without hesitation.

“Yeah,” he answered.

“Adam, what the fuck did you sell me?Are you trying to get both of us killed?”

Adam straightened.“Rizzio?”

Rizzio was one of his buyers. And he sounded pissed, which wasn’t like him.

“One of the girls from last week, Anna, the American.”

“What about her?”Adam asked, not understanding why Rizzio was so pissed.Anna was a catch, and with the proper training, she would fetch him a lot of money.

“You told me she was clean and had a mediocre background.”

“She was or is.She’s just a college kid.”

“Yeah.Well, your college kid’s old man is a fucking United States Congressman. He sits on the fucking Subcommittee for Homeland Security.”

Adam froze.

“What did you just say?”

“Anna’s dad is a fucking United States Congressman.”

No!No, way in hell, Adam thought, his mind racing as he pulled open the drawer of his desk and grabbed Anna’s file.He flipped through the papers quickly until he found the background check on her.

“That’s not possible.I’m looking at her file right now.Her background came back clean.Anna Burns is from a small midwestern town. She worked part-time as a waitress and was studying architecture at the local university. That’s all it says.”

“Then whoever you’ve got running your background checks is a damn idiot, and you should fire them!”

Something didn’t add up.

“Who told you she was a congressman’s daughter?”

“She did!At first, I didn’t believe her, but she kept insisting she was, and something inside me said to check it out.You know, just in case she was telling the truth. And she was!”He shouted.
