“What’s her dad’s name?”Adam asked as he pulled up the search engine on his computer.
“Sandri.The last name is Sandri.”
Adam typed in the name Anna Sandri and hit enter. What came up next on the screen made him freeze, his blood running cold as the words“Daughter of U.S.Congressman Marco Sandri”stared back at him.Following that were a string of news articles, pictures from appearances with her dad, and political connections that made his stomach twist.
Adam cursed under his breath and pushed back from the desk. This wasn’t good. The last thing he needed was for something like this to happen.
But the more he thought about it, the more things didn’t add up.Why didn’t anything come up in the search about her being missing? She’s been gone for over a week.Plus, when an investigator showed up at the club a few days ago with a picture of Anna and asked Erik if he’d seen her before, they never mentioned she was a congressperson’s daughter. And they used the name Anna Burns.
“What do we do about this, Adam?”Rizzio asked.
“I don’t know just yet.”
“Has anyone questioned you about her missing?”
“An investigator came by a few days ago and caught Erik outside. He showed him a picture and asked if he’d ever seen her before, and Erik told him no, and that he had never heard of Anna Burns before. The guy never mentioned anything about her being a politician’s kid.”
“Well, now we all know.”
“Where do you have her now?”
“She’s down in my dungeon.I’ve got a buyer in Cambodia who’s interested in her.But he’s out of town for the next two weeks.Unless something big happens, I can keep her locked there until he gets back and we can move her.But I’ll be honest with you, Adam.I’m not happy about this. You know that I don’t like drama, especially the kind that could blow up in our faces.”
Adam clenched his jaw.“I know. And I swear, I’ll make this up to you.”
“You better.”
“I’ll let you know if I hear anything. And I’ll send over a few prospects for you to look at.”
There was a tense pause.Adam knew that this oversight was a significant issue.
“I’ll be waiting,” Rizzio stated before the line went dead.
Adam let the phone fall onto the desk as his thoughts spiraled. His heart was racing.A Congressman’s daughter.Jesus Christ.
If they got caught up in any federal investigation, it wouldn’t just be him who went down.It would trickle down the entire network.
He pinched the bridge of his nose and cursed again. His guy, who handled all the background checks for the women who came into the club, usually caught that type of shit. But it was now obvious that someone fucked up.
In the future, he had to ensure they were more thorough in their screening process. He made a mental note to revisit this later.Consider reaching out to his contact back in the states to see if he can provide any more information on Anna’s case.
He exhaled hard as his eyes drifted back to the picture of the blonde on his screen—Riley.
There were no signs of trouble with her.Nothing in her file indicated that she wasn’t who she said she was.Just a rich, gorgeous girl from Miami with probably too much time on her hands and a body that could melt diamonds.
The buzzer of the front entrance bell echoed down the hall.
Adam stood up, smoothed his shirt, and rolled his cuffs. He took one last look at the screen.
“Well, Miss Taylor.Let’s see what you’re really made of.”
And with that, he headed downstairs.
Riley took a deep breath as she approached the club’s entrance. Her heels clicked against the concrete sidewalk. The two-story building was sleek and modern, nothing like the dingy back-alley clubs she had been in back home.Although there were no markings on the building to indicate what the place was.All there was were three numbers—two, five, and nine, painted in white just above the door, which represented the address.
She paused in front of the heavy black door. Her heart rate spiked as she pressed the doorbell, as instructed in the email she had received.
As she waited, she fought the urge to fidget as her fingers tightened around the clutch in her hand.
