“Oh, yeah, totally smooth,” Jay Bird said, clapping his hands slowly.
Nails flipped him the bird, which only made everyone laugh more.
The second he heard her voice, his eyes snapped in the direction of the front door, and what he saw nearly made his tongue roll out of his mouth.
Those leather pants hugged her like they were custom-made, and that fitted shirt was downright lethal, especially with the way she had it opened just enough to tease him with a view of her abundant cleavage. She was trouble wrapped in curves, and every cell in his body knew it.
“Hey, guys,” Riley said, giving everyone, including him, a polite nod.
Everyone greeted her back, saying hi or offering her a wave.Well, everyone except for Nails, because he was at a loss for words. All he could do was stare at her.
Thankfully, Aussie’s voice broke up the awkwardness.
“Dinner’s ready!”
“Great,” Riley said with a small smile.“I’m starving.”
Nails was too, just not for food. She was trying his patience by wearing an outfit like that.
Snow gave him a little nudge on the back to focus.“Dude, instead of just standing there undressing her with your eyes, go offer her a drink or something.”
Nails cleared his throat.Shit, he was acting like a creep. He walked toward the kitchen as Riley and the others started to take their seats at the table.
“Riley, do you want a beer or something else to drink?”
She smiled.“A beer sounds good.”
Riley walked over to the dining table and slid into the seat between Aussie and Duke.
She looked around the wide-open space again, still amazed by every detail, from the massive brick walls and steel beams to the bank of TV screens glowing against the far wall.It felt like a cross between an apartment and a command center.
Nails handed her a beer.
“Thanks,” she said, and took a big sip.
“Anytime.”He took the chair across from her.He looked at her with that unreadable expression she was quickly learning that all the guys on the team had mastered. Finally, he looked away when Playboy handed him the platter of burgers.
The moment she had walked into the apartment, she had felt Nails’ eyes on her.It reminded her of an earlier comment that Duke had made to her when she walked out of her bedroom dressed for the interview.Nails hadn’t been there.Duke told her she was lucky Nails wasn’t there to see her.She had laughed and taken it as a compliment.
As the food was being passed around, Riley decided to tell them about the interview and what she had found out today.
“So, the interview was interesting,” she said, taking a bite of her burger.
“Interesting how?”Bear asked.
“Adam, the guy who interviewed me.Yeah, he’s the owner of the club.”
The entire table went still, and all eyes were on her.
“Owner?”Duke frowned.
Riley nodded.“Yep.It shocked me too.I don’t have a last name yet.But I’ll work on getting it.”
Joker smirked.“Let me get this straight. You’ve been there once for an interview, and you already scored a face-to-face with the top guy?Not to mention that is a critical piece of Intel, considering we didn’t know who the owner was.”
Aussie grinned.“Keep that up and you’ll have the whole op wrapped up by the weekend.”
Riley shook her head but smiled.“Don’t hold your breath. It’s going to be a little more complicated to get some other answers we need.”
