Nope, not going to think about it. I needed to be zen for this sperm to work.
Finallywe got called back.
“Oh...um...no,” said the nurse, looking at Chastity. “Just the couple.”
“It’s fine,” said Chastity. “I’ll keep a lookout for some good boner donors. And maybe prequalify one for you.” She winked at me.
What does that even mean?
“That’s not how this works,” said the nurse.
“Sure.” Chastity winked again.
The nurse shook her head. “Right this way, please.”
We sat down in Dr. Wang’s office. There were so many pictures of cute wittle babies. Gah.Talk like an adult, ma’am.
Dr. Wang adjusted his glasses. “So how long have you been trying to conceive?”
“About a week,” I said.
“Oh. Okay…well, usually I advise that couples try naturally for about a year before seeking help.”
“There’s no time for that. These eggs are getting old.” I gestured toward my ovaries.
Dr. Wang frowned. “You’re actually still quite young. But if you want, I can run some tests on you both…”
“That won’t be necessary,” said Tanner. “My semen is worthless. Only blanks coming out of this old meat cannon.” He started whistling again.
“Yup,” I said. “Me on the other hand… I’m paraben free, my selenium is perfectly balanced, my basal body temperature is up .62 degrees, and my LH is going through the roof.”
Dr. Wang just stared at me.
“Why are you looking at me like that? Clearly I’m ovulating. Let’s find me a sperm donor and get this party started.”
Dr. Wang cleared his throat. “Do you have a preference on method of insemination? We can do IUI, IVF…” he started pointing at a chart as he spoke that showed both procedures. There were a lot of needles on the poster, and I was not a fan.
“Which way involves the fewest needles?” I asked.
“Natural insemination, but...”
“Then that’s the one for me. Time to saddle up, cowboy!”Eek.I hope he didn’t think I wanted his sperm. Not that there was anything wrong with it per se. We’d probably make a very intelligent kid. I just didn’t think the doctor guiding me on my fertility journey should be the father of my unborn child.
“Um...we can discuss that more later. For now, the next step will be to choose a donor. What I’ve found is it works best to look through the options individually and then move forward with the ones you both agree on. Tanner, if you would please follow me.”
Tanner started whistling again as he and Dr. Wang left me alone in the office.
