“Why?”

“It’s millions of dollars, Tanner.”

“Get off it old chap. It’s practically pennies.”

Matt sighed. “You really should talk to me before moving around huge chunks of money like this. I know you’re a billionaire, but it’s still irresponsible to pull investments like this without talking.”

That was the problem right there. Matt thought I was only a billionaire. Because I had a few billionaire dollars with his firm. But I had billions of dollars at many firms. And in many banks. Under many names. If I was only a billionaire, it maybe would have been irresponsible to buy a whole soccer team at amoment’s notice. But luckily I was a trillionaire. “I’ll discuss it with you next time.”

“Next time? Are you planning on a buying another soccer team?”

“If the mood strikes.”

Matt laughed. “You’re ridiculous.”

“Thank you.” He always had the best compliments for me. “How are Brooklyn and my grandchildren?”

Matt laughed. “They’re great. Are you really going to have Chloe call you abuelo too?”

“She can call me whatever she pleases. But I will not be the least surprised if abuelo is her first word.” I’d been saying it to her repeatedly.

“Do you want to hang out one night this weekend?”

“I’m a little busy.”

“Oh. Doing what?”

Matthew was being rather nosey this evening. “NY United things. Tanner will be unavailable for a bit.” I had so much to do as my new persona.

“That is a very weird thing to say about yourself.”

“Thank you.”

Matt laughed. “Any other big news you didn’t feel like sharing with me?”

“Not at the moment. But I have some things in the works.”

Matt laughed again.

“Maybe we can grab lunch one day this week though. As long as you’re paying.”

“Seriously? You just bought NY United.”

“Exactly. I’m strapped for cash.”

“We both know that isn’t true.”

“For being so worried about my finances, the least you could do is pay for your biggest client’s and best friend’s meals.”

“Meals plural?”

I laughed. “Yes.” How did he think I got rich in the first place? I was very frugal when I wasn’t buying outlandish things at a moment’s notice. If he was paying attention he would have realized that I’d never once paid for a meal when we were together. I always left him with the check. But in my defense, I usually didn’t have any pence on me.

“Okay, call me when Tanner has an afternoon to spare for lunch.”

“Will do, son.”

Matt laughed. “Don’t call me that. Just because Jacob thinks you’re his grandfather does not mean I’m you’re son.”
