The person next to me coughed again without covering his mouth. And then he closed his eyes and his head slumped onto my shoulder. Ugh, gross.

He started snoring.

“Here, switch with me,” said Mr. Frost.

I ducked out from under the guy and switched places with Mr. Frost.

He made a grossed out face when the guy coughed again and fell asleep with his head on Mr. Frost’s shoulder now.

I laughed. “Thank you for taking one for the team,” I whispered.

He nodded.

I thought we’d do some kind of prep before we arrived. But Mr. Frost seemed lost in thought. And he kept drumming his fingers against his thigh.

He was nervous.

And his nervousness was making me nervous.

I’d put zero thought into doing this because I never actually thought it would happen. What if it didn’t work and his grandmother saw right through me?

“What’s your family like?” I asked.

“Oh...um...my older brother is a lot like me.”

I smiled. “So...super strict?”

He laughed. “No, my dad is super strict. He’s a total hard ass. He’s way worse than me.”

Huh.

“But my mom is the sweetest. I don’t think there’s a better mother in the whole world. You’re going to love her.”

I smiled. “You’re such a momma’s boy.”

“No I’m not.”

“Yes you are.”

He smiled at me. “Definitely not.”

“Mhm. Sure.” I felt myself smiling too. “Who else am I meeting?”

“My grandmother. She’s sweet too. But...she’s VERY inappropriate.”

I laughed. “I’m sure she’s not.”

“Trust me, she is.” He looked a little embarrassed. “Just don’t take anything she says to heart. Okay?” He patted my thigh. His hand lingered for a bit.

And then the guy sleeping with his head on his shoulder coughed.

Mr. Frost pretended to gag.

I laughed. I was starting to see Mr. Frost in a whole new light.

We pulled up to a sweet mansion. It was nothing compared to Tanner’s apartment. Or his private island. Or his vineyard. But it was still nice.
