True Love - Chapter 28 – Wait For It…

Ash
It took a whole week of planning, but the big day was finally here. I looked up at the beautiful cathedral.
“Baby,” said Tanner.
“Yes?”
“You’re squeezing my hand very tightly.”
I laughed but didn’t let go. “I just wish we could do this without seeing Joe. I hate him so much.”
“I know. But one of the first Society wishes you made was to get revenge on him. And that’s exactly what we’re going to do. Together.”
Joe deserved the worst revenge. He cheated on me. Blackmailed me. Tried to freaking murder my sister. And his latest offense – kidnapping Tanner and Santa and stealing Santa’s magic. Not on my watch, asshole.
“But if you don’t want to...” Tanner’s voice trailed off as he stared at the cathedral.
It wasn’t just me who wanted revenge. Tanner wanted it for me. And probably a bit for himself. Joe had magic now and Tanner didn’t. I couldn’t believe Ghazi had taken Tanner’s magic and not Nigel’s. It was total bullshit.
“No, I want to,” I said. “Joe deserves it. And so does Sierra.” They were both jerks.
Tanner nodded. “Let’s do this thing.” He escorted me up the steps and only dropped my hand to open the door for me.
Joe was standing right inside the cathedral greeting people. He smiled when he saw me. But his smile dropped when Tanner slid his hand back into mine and squeezed it tight.
Joe put on a fake smile. “Ash. It’s so good to see you.”
Was it? It was certainly terrible to see him. I couldn’t believe he chose the date of our wedding anniversary to marry Sierra. What the fuck was his problem? It was tempting to just punch him square in the face and bounce.
“I didn’t realize you were bringing a date.” Joe eyed Tanner.
“You must be Cupcake,” said Tanner. He didn’t offer his hand to shake.
Which was a devastating insult from an old-fashioned gentleman like Tanner. I smiled.
Joe laughed awkwardly. “No one’s called me that in years, man.”
“I don’t know,” said Tanner. “I think it suits you.”
Was Tanner calling Joe doughy? Either way, it was a second devastating insult. And Joe didn’t seem to know what to say.
And Tanner’s devastating insults emboldened me. “Congrats on your nuptials,” I said. “I hope you and Sierra get everything you deserve and more.” I smiled sweetly at him.
“Thanks,” Joe said, somehow missing my sarcasm. “I hope you don’t mind the date I chose. It was the only day available.”
I was sure that wasn’t true. “Oh, not at all, Cupcake. It’s best to replace the worst day of my life with a better one, yes?”
Joe gaped at me. “Did you just call me Cupcake too? Where did you even hear...” his voice trailed off as the cathedral doors opened and Rob and Daphne walked in, both dressed to the nines.
“Cupcake!” yelled Rob. “What’s up, man?”
“What are you doing here?” Joe asked.
“Ash invited me. You didn’t know that she was friends with me?”
