The only problem with our plan is that when you begin an hour-long car drive already frustrated, and Logan is within arms reach, things can heat up quite quickly.

I start off with my hand on his thigh as he drives. I gradually slide my hand up, my breath quickening when I feel the expanding hardness beneath the fabric of Logan's jeans.

“You want to make a scenic detour down one of these side roads?” Logan eventually gasps.

“Most definitely.”

“It means we won’t have time to go out for dinner,” Logan says.

“I’m fine with drive-through,” I say quickly.

Logan laughs as he switches on his indicator, pulling down one of the country lanes. He ends up parking up under some large overhanging trees that face into a cow paddock.

I’m squeezing through the gap to the back seat and unbuckling my jeans before Logan has even turned the car engine off.

He laughs loudly at my enthusiasm.

“Don’t you have better things to do with your mouth than laugh at me?” I ask.

He laughs even harder before proceeding to join me in the backseat and blowing me and my mind at the same time.

I tug at his hair, pulling him up so I can kiss him. I tug his shirt off.

“I have to say, the scenery is pretty awesome on this detour,” I say as I kiss down his neck. Logan shudders as I press my lips to his collarbone. I kiss down his chest, his stomach, his navel… When I look up at him, he’s watching me, his eyes darkened with lust.

Afterwards, we kiss and kiss. I don't think I will ever get enough of kissing Logan.

Logan’s smiling when he finally pulls back from me.

“We’ve potentially traumatized a few cows,” he says, looking out the window where some cows peer over a fence at us.

“I’m prepared to have that on my conscience.”

Logan laughs, and we fumble to put our clothes back on, then use the doors this time in a slightly more civilized manner of getting back to the front of the car.

Logan drives the rest of the way with only one hand on the steering wheel, his other hand intertwined with mine.

We grab Subway when we hit the outer suburbs of Dunedin, scoffing it down as we head to the hospital.

I grow quieter as we draw closer to the hospital.

Aaron’s mood has been up and down since he woke up after the accident. I think it’s taking him a while to accept how badly he was hurt and how long the road to recovery is.

Mum has been with him the whole time, with Annaliese supporting her and me making the trips up from Heath Valley most days as well.

I know Mum is going to use the time when Aaron can’t move much to get him some help. She’s already tracked down a counsellor who specializes in dealing with kids with a parent in jail.

I really hope today is a good Aaron day.

As I walk down the hospital corridor, I see Mum on the chair outside the door. She’sgot dark shadows under her eyes, but she smiles as we approach.

“How is he?” I ask.

“Good. He’s been really positive today.” She takes a deep breath. “He’s on the phone with your father now.”

I blink. “Did you set up a call?”

She nods. “Yes. I’ve set up a regular call with the prison authorities, soyourfatherwill be able to call Aaron at least once a week from now on. Your father is also talking about putting in an application to transfer to a prison down here, so it’ll be easy for you kids to visit.”
