Once he places the drinks in front of us, I hand a shot to Ryett and tell her, “Tequila. No sippin’, just throw it back.”

Once she takes the shot glass from me, I shove the other one in front of her along with a bottle of water.

“Both are for me?”she questions.

“I’m not consuming any alcohol until Vance is dead or behind bars,” I simply state and grab the bottle of water.

Without any more words she throws back the shot and hisses as she slams the glass back onto the bar.“Holy fuck,” she croaks and gives me a blinding smile.“I needed that.”

She downs the other one and then takes her bottle of water with a happy sigh.

“Good?”I ask.

“The burn and heat were definitely something I needed.”Glancing around she adds, “Great job with the walls and floor, the place looks brand new.”

I nod.“The pipe bursting sucked.Though, it also gave us a reason to renovate completely. We had small rooms behind this large space and with some of the walls being ruined, we knocked them down and made a few small rooms into larger ones.”

“So, you don’t need a room at my place anymore,” Ryett says with a hint of disappointment in her voice.

I knew this was coming.Yet, the situation between us has changed today with both of us committing to what was already growing between us.

“Correct.”Her face falls.A dick move because I was teasing her.“’Cause from now on I’m sleeping in my old lady’s bed.”

Her smile is blinding, and she practically jumps into my arms, leaving me to grip her ass in my hands once again.

CHAPTER ELEVEN

–RYETT –

Night has fallen and we’re riding home. The thought of not living alone any more slowly unwinds a knot inside my chest.I never would have guessed offering a bed to my best friend’s brother would have led to a solid relationship.

Delcy asked if we wanted to stay the night at the clubhouse, something they were doing.I was thinking it through when Abbott told her we were going back home to make sure Mina was okay.

Another reason why the knot inside my chest slipped away.Abbott might seem annoyed when the cat makes him jump, but he cares.I can also tell by the way he gives her fresh water every day before I’m able to do it.Evina would have liked Abbott, and not just how he treats Mina either. My mother would have approved of him as well.

Not that anyone’s approval would matter. When you’re an adult the choices of how you live your life fall solely on your shoulders.Consequences and actions weigh heavy and it’s why I have always treated people how I’d like to be treated.A version of karma with the whole do good, receive good.
