CHAPTER TWELVE
Seven months later
– ABBOTT –
“Everything is ready, just let me know when you guys are heading our way,” Layton rumbles through the phone.
I had parked my bike in front of Ryett’s bookstore right before my phone rang.
Swinging my leg off, I tell my VP, “Once we’ve closed the shop I’ll message, which will probably be twenty minutes from now.”
“Will that be including the quickie behind the bookshelves or without?”The fucker snickers and I simply end the call.
There’s no way I’ll ever mention something intimate between me and my old lady with any of my brothers.I haven’t even told a soul about what I’m going to do now.Except for the part that comes after.
Closing time for the bookstore. My woman saunters to the door and when she flips the sign from open to closed, she notices me.Walking over, she opens the door for me and locks it behind us.
“Hey,” I rumble and lean in to place a soft kiss on her lush lips.
“Hey, yourself,” she breathes on a happy sigh.
Her fine ass sways as she walks away from me to go behind the counter.I watch as she gets busy with the routine of counting the register.Over the past seven months we’ve fallen into a routine where I drop her off and pick her up whenever she’s working.Layton does the exact same thing when it’s my sister’s turn to run the store.
Walking to the counter, I place my hands on it and lean in to catch my old lady’s attention who is standing on the other side. Her smile is stunning, eyes twinkling, and her whole appearance screams the loving feelings this woman harbors for me.I recognize it all too well because I feel the exact same way.
Which is also why having her as my woman, my old lady, sleeping in my bed, isn’t enough. Not when I know there’s one final thing I can do to show the whole damn world her gorgeous heart belongs to me.
“One final exchange over this counter before we call it a day,” I murmur.
A small frown appears on her face, making the corner of my mouth twitch.
“I want the most valuable item you have to offer.”Shoving my hand into the front pocket of my jeans, I reach for the ring.“In exchange you’ll get the most valuable item I have to offer.”
Her frown deepens and she places the pen she’s holding onto her little notebook where she’s scribbling down the amount of cash in the register.
Holding my hand, palm up, I state, “All you have to do is say yes.”
“Say yes,” she murmurs and I watch how her gaze slides down where she finally notices the ring in my hand.
Her eyes go wide and collide with mine.
“Yes!”The single word is a squeak and fucking loud in my ears, but it’s also the most perfect statement coming from her.
Instead of rounding the counter she climbs over it and launches herself at me.A grunt rips from me when I catch her and laugh when she hugs me tight. Her hands grip my face and the kiss she plants on my mouth captures the air straight from my lungs.
This woman lit my soul on fire and has caused my heart to warm the blood in my veins. The day I was released from prison was when my life truly started. The added pleasure Ryett has given me feels as if she gave color to an otherwise gray life.
All the sappy shit people in love rave about is true when you meet the right person. The one who completes you, who stands strong beside you, an unconditional love born from nothing and expands without limitation.
I kiss her back with the same ferocity. The burning need to let her know just how much she means to me and yet it’s something I show her every day. There won’t ever be confusion in her heart or a single grain of doubt about the fact she is fucking loved.
It’s damn important to let those who matter in life know, because one day it could be too late to voice those words.
