If she is smiling, hopefully that smile is about to grow ten times over when she sees what I got planned.
Thankfully, I don’t have to wonder what her expression is going to be much longer because soon, I reach the door that I was directed to use and lead her through. As soon as she walks into the lit-up arena, she lets out a small gasp.
“Why is the ice up?” she asks as I close door behind us and take her hand as she takes in the space a level down.
“Because I asked them to,” I say to her, a smile forming on my face.
“Why would you do that?” She turns to me, a curious look on her face.
“Because I wanted to treat my girlfriend to an unforgettable night.” I take her hands once more and guide her down to the ice.
This is all part of the plan.
For weeks, I’ve been thinking of how I wanted this night to go. I wanted it to be special and something that two of us would never forget. I kept thinking about going back to the rink where we first met all those years ago. Since it had a special place in our hearts but since Sophia has to a shift tomorrow, I figured that the Knights’ arena was the next best thing and I could recreate what I had planned here.
Thankfully, Grayson was able to help me out with letting me use the place and have the ice set up with no questions asked.
As we make it down to the ice, Sophia’s eyes grow a bit bigger as she takes in all the small little details that are in front of us.
The two pair of skates. A hockey and a figure skating pair. Flowers of all kinds making a pathway to the ice and some more flowers at center ice.
It’s like she is putting all the pieces together and trying to figure it all out in her head.
“An unforgettable night,” she says, repeating my words, as I guide her to the nearest seat and go and grab the skates that are waiting for us.
I grab hers and hold them up.
“Can I help you tie your skates?” I ask, a smile forming on my face.
Sophia right away looks up at me, like she’s remembering something.
If all of this is going to plan, she is remembering the first time that we met.
“Do you even know how?” she asks, her own smile forming as she asks me the question that her mom asked all those years ago.
I give her shrug. “I’ve been skating since I was two. I definitely know how to tie some laces.”
She lets out a sweet laugh that is absolutely music to my ears. “Then I wouldn’t trust anyone else to tie my skates. Go right ahead.”
My smile turns into a smirk as I fall to my knees in front of her and start sliding off the heels that she is wearing and switching them for the skates.
She can tie her owe skate. Sophia actually learned to do it before I even did, but no matter what stage we were in our lives, or even in our friendship, she would always have me tie up her laces every time we went skating together.
As I do it now, she watches me the entire time, like she is in awe of what I’m doing.
When her skates are done, I quickly put mine on and don’t hesitate in reach for her hand again as soon as I’m finished.
She happily slides her hand into mine and walks out on the ice with me, her smile growing with every single second.
I skate us over to center ice and turn to face her, placing my hands on her hips and brining her body closer to mine.
“What are you doing, Blake?” she asks, placing her hands around my neck as best she can with our new height difference, just as a soft melody starts playing through the speakers.
“Recreating the first time we met,” I say, leaning down and placing a kiss against her lips.
“I don’t remember us dancing.” She smiles up at me, her eyes absolutely glowing.
“I made a few tweaks,” I say, giving her a smile back.
