Hubby: How’d it go?
Me: Great! Everything looks awesome and Bill took $100 off
Hubby: That’s awesome baby! You’re so good at everything.
Me: Shut up lol :-*
Hubby: Lol. So you guys on your way home?
Me: Yup. We’ll see you in about 20 mins
Hubby: Perfect. Miss you.
I grin and shake my head, “He’s fucking adorable.”
Jess giggles. “He is… Like, I can’t deal with him.”
Me: Us too. We can’t wait for dinner tonight. Still not gonna tell us where we’re going?
Hubby: I know you know what surprise means, kid…
I roll my eyes. “He’s also super annoying.”
Jess laughs out loud.
Me: Alright C.F. See you soon!
Hubby: *middle finger emoji*
Jess and I call Ben C.F. sometimes. It stands for… You guessed it.
Control freak.
After twenty more minutes of blasting Queen’s Greatest Hits, Jessica and I arrive home. And we promptly start freaking out.
There are cars lining almost the entire street.
We gape at each other with wide eyes, pulling into the garage and hopping out of the truck to the sound of music, coming from the backyard.
“Oh my God!” Jess squeals, grabbing my arm and dragging me to the front door.
But when we get there, there’s a sign taped on it that reads,Husband and wife, please report to the backyard. Love, Ben Lockwood-Harper.
Now we’re both squealing.
Darting to the back gate, we open it and are met with an immediate wave of cheers andSurprise!I knew it was coming, but it still startles me.
Our smiles could be seen from outer space as we wave at all our closest friends and family, all gathered in the backyard for what looks to be an elaborate cookout party. There are decorations everywhere, music playing and catered food. It’s incredible.
Ben’s up on the deck and he jumps down the steps two at a time to jog over to us. His smile is the cutest motherlovin’ thing I’ve ever witnessed. Like humble pride, love and elation all wrapped up in one sexy as hell curve of the lips.
“Surprised?” He murmurs.
Jess leaps into his arms, holding onto him while he catches her, peppering his face and neck with kisses. And I hug onto his side, holding them both while we laugh together.
“I can’t believe you did this,” I whisper into his neck, acknowledging over his shoulder that I see my mom.My mom!
Andmy best friend ever and former roommate, Alec, with his girlfriend, Kayla. I haven’t seen them in months, and was actually pretty bummed they weren’t around for Pride since they still live in ABQ.
