“She’s running late, but on her way,” he tells me, bringing our joined hands to his lips to kiss mine.

I nod, excited beyond belief. “This is amazing, baby. You’re like…”

“Fabulous?” He grins and fake-punch him in the kidney.

About an hour later,I’ve already managed to down twoCocktails—get it?—and I’m working on my third while chatting with Alec, Greg and Bill about the Mustang. Well, we started talking about the Mustang, but somehow the conversation got here:

“So did you have an orgy at Pride?” Bill asks, sucking on the penis straw in his drink. It’s a hilarious sight, I must say. This is probably why Ben added these drinks to the menu.

“Well, our relationship is only one person shy of an orgy as it is,so…” I shrug, and Alec dies laughing.

“I heard you guys ran into Tate,” Greg says while inhaling an entire farm’s worth of pigs in blankets. “Was that awkward?”

“I’m sure Ben made it awkward,” Bill chuckles. And I have to laugh, because he’s kind of right.

“You guys give Tate a hard time, but he’s actually a great guy,” I tell them. “I hope he can figure things out with that guy he likes. Lance something…”

Bill’s eyes go wide. “You mean, the guy he liked in college? Lance Hardy?”

“Yea, I think that’s the guy,” I nod.

“He was there? At Pride??” Bill’s face looks like he might explode. I’ve never known a straight guy who loves drama as much as Bill.

“Yea…” My forehead lines. “Why are you being weird?”

“That dude’smarried,” Bill says, fully serious.

“Really?” More forehead creases. “Are you sure he’s not like, getting a divorce or something?”

“No. He’s still married, to a woman, and it seems like it’s all good. At least according to their Facebook profiles.”

“Yea well, social media doesn’t always show the truth,” I mutter.

“He’s a Pastor,” Greg mumbles through his chewing.

That one gets me. “What??”

Bill gasps, “Oh yea, I forgot about that! Yea, he’s a Pastor at their church. United Methodist something or other.”

“No, it’s Presbyterian,” Greg interjects.

“Who cares! You’re saying not only is he a closeted gay guy who’s married to a woman, but he’s also aPastor??That’s crazy!”

“Yea, Tate sure does pick the wrong guys,” Bill sighs.

“I’ll say…” My mind is reeling.

I felt bad for Tate before, but now it’s like, amplified. It must suck falling for someone you can’t have like that…

Okay, been there done that.

“Babe!” Ben sidles over and grabs me by the waist. “Jacob just challenged me. I’m gonna need your assistance over there.” He nods to where his brother is tossing a football up in the air.

I grin. “Just like old times, huh?”

Ben nods with enthusiasm. “Let’s go.”
