Kneeling before me, he takes my hands in his. “Talk to me. Freak out. Shit, I’d even let you slap me at this point, Naomi.”
I chuckle, and he frowns. Yes. I’ve been processing, but my silence has more to do with exhaustion than anything else. “I’m OK.”
He raises an eyebrow, and I grip his hands so he can feel my strength. “I can do this.”
Dom rises. “No.Thiswon’t happen again. I’m cleaning house. Anyone associated with Connor is gone.”
“That’s not what I mean...”
Dom takes to his knees again, his eyes searching mine.
“I killed two men tonight. I had a choice to make, and I chose to survive. I always thought the only way to live was to avoid the danger, but tonight, death came for me, and I sent it packing.”
Dom reaches up and grips my chin. “You’ve no idea how proud I am of you.”
I do.“This baby isn’t going to kill me,” I say with absolute belief. “I’m strong. I’m worthy of life… I’m not responsible for my parents.”
The weight lifts as I release myself from my self-imposed burden. Dom leans in, but I put my hand out and block him. “I’m not done.”
Dom pauses and waits, though his lips twitch in amusement.
“I think part of me will always be mad at you for how you played me.” Gripping his jaw, I slowly pull him closer. “But I’m not sure that matters when it turns out that I’m willing to kill for you.” I hold him an inch from my lips. “I would kill for you, Dom.”
He smiles. “That’s because you’re my queen.”
“No…” Pulling him closer, my lips graze his. “It’s because I love you.”
The End
