“Dee…?” I hear him whispering, calling my name.
I smile but I don’t respond. Not yet.
I don’t want him to wonder about the space I’ll enter the home through. The entrance I’ve shown him is only one of many I’ve built beneath my home. It leads to nowhere but the eternal home of my angels. This tunnel, however, is well lit and would take him straight to the outside world.
I can’t have that.
There is a brief pause, then I hear him climb up the stairs and close the bedroom door.
My Anthony issucha perfect boy.
Chapter 11
I'm falling, sinking faster than ever. My descent is never-ending.
But for the first time ever, I'm at peace.
Instead of feeling the drop deep in my core, causing me unease, I feel like I'm floating. The thickness of the darkness surrounding me feels like a warm caress. Like Delorean's cashmere sweater. Like the luxurious linen covers we’re snuggled under. Like his warm, thick calloused fingers running gently through my hair.
I can hear the soothing rumble of his voice caressing me.
“Sleep little bird. I won't be long, my love.”
My eyelids are sealed with sleep, but my hand reaches for him, covering his calloused knuckles while he is still cupping my cheek.
No. Stay. Don't leave me alone with the darkness.
I can't help it. I'm still afraid.
But my lips are sealed by his with a gentle kiss.
I sigh and cuddle up to his fingers as his warm breath caresses my skin.
I drift away.
I resume the weightless wandering of my mind.
I dream of nothing but my lover.
Delorean is all I see, in wake and in sleep.
There's nothing, no one else I need but him.
My lover is all around me.
I am at his mercy.
I know exactly how dangerous Delorean can be. But, to fool myself that I'm in any way familiar with the full extent of what he is capable of is ludicrous. Yet, I am not afraid.
For all I know, tonight is my last night among the living.
Perhaps I never wake.
I sink deeper, still hearing his voice from someplace far away.
His words bring me nothing but comfort and pleasure.
Little bird.
