Decorum be damned.
Watching my mate chew and swallow the piece of meat I fed her was the most erotic thing I’d ever witnessed. I was forced to adjust myself under the table before I grabbed my own steak.
Willow leaned back in the chair as she crossed her arms over her chest, drawing my attention when her pretty mouth dropped open.
The challenge was plain.
She wanted another bite.
Laughter threatened to rumble through me as my dragon hummed his approval.
I fed her another piece of meat. She still didn’t break eye contact, even as she chewed.
“’Why do I get the feeling you’d rather it was my heart you were eating?”I couldn’t help but be amused at her antics.
Willow shrugged with one shoulder as she swallowed.“You wanted to use me for a show. I’m helping you make it a good one.”
“Touché.”I cut her another slice of meat as the volume of laughter and chatter rose around us. I’d thought Riley was entertaining, but Willow had her beat. I didn’t expect this attitude to come from such a soft-spoken woman.
“Potatoes next.” Willow motioned with her chin to the plate I’d yet to serve her from.
I heard the few delighted whispers of the dragons gathered closest to us. They were pleased with the female show of dominance. And the alphas from various shifter species had settled back down, enjoying their meals.
I speared a round of roasted potato and held it to her lips.“If you intended to turn me off by your antics, you’re failing.”
She gave an adorable little frown before she bit the potato off the fork and chewed thoughtfully.“I honestly have no ulterior motive. But I’m glad I could finally see you smile.”
I touched the corner of my lips, confused to find that she was right. I did smile. It was only lately that they were few and far between. But I decided to enjoy tonight as much as I was able to. The company was good. The food decent. It wouldn’t hurt to relax.
Danger is coming.
My dragon woke from his stupor and roared as the floor beneath us seemed to vibrate. It wasn’t Earth, though. Her call was more intense.
This was a landing. A rumble that echoed down the halls. I felt the intrusion of the building before Lucan and Kieran rose from their seats.
“What’s wrong?” Willow grabbed my arm before I could feed her another bite, sensing my worry through the bond just as all the other guests shifted nervously.
“We have an uninvited guest.” I set down my fork and reached for the glass of wine.
“Neutral territory,”my cousin reminded me as if I wouldn’t heed his warning.
And maybe I wouldn’t.
I finished the last of my wine as the doors to the dining hall blew open.

Party Crasher
One minute we were somewhat enjoying ourselves in this charade, and in the next minute, the room had become scarily quiet. A lone fork scraped across a plate coming from the direction of where Morgana sat with the other witches. Other than that, no one moved.
But it was the dead silence from Malachy that terrified me the most. The small bit of warmth he’d been showing earlier was sucked into a chilling void of no emotion whatsoever. I shivered, knowing this was how a predator lay in wait for whatever was coming from outside of those doors.
Every instinct in me was screaming to run as far away from here as fast as humanly possible. If this gathered group of oversized supernaturals were worried then what chance did I have?
Nope. Better to get to Harper and go hide somewhere until this all blew over.
