“An hour or two,” she whispered.
“That’s not long at all.” I winked as I eased her pants down slowly, chasing each exposed inch of skin with a soft kiss. “I better hurry then.”

My inner thighs were chafed in all the best places from Malachy’s rough face as I made the walk of shame down the empty hall in the early morning.
Or it would’ve been empty if Malachy wasn’t trailing behind me wearing a shit-eating grin I’d never seen on him before. Not that I wasn’t glad he felt better, but this was a bit overwhelming.
“What do you and Harper want for breakfast?” Malachy’s masculine whisper was too loud in the quiet hall.
I came to a stop outside the bedroom door. “You don’t have to do this.”
“Do what?”
I waved in the short space between us. “The gentleman escort thing or the morning after stuff. I’m happy that you magically healed quick from whatever we did and thanks for the, uh…” I glanced at the closed door and mouthed, “multiple orgasms.”
“I’m pleased you enjoyed them.” That silly smile on his face did things to me. Made me feel what I had no business feeling. Especially when he reached out and tucked a piece of hairbehind my ear like I was something precious. “Now what do you want for breakfast?’

Harper woke up just as I finished showering. I quickly dressed, trying not to marvel too long at how fast the raw skin on my inner thighs had healed.
“Venom,”Malachy had said.
It was a little creepy, but okay.
“Can we go exploring outside today?” Harper asked as we headed downstairs.
“Maybe when you get out of pajamas.” I glanced at the window, seeing Miss Grace’s giant eye pressed against the glass, and gave her a wave ‘good morning.’
Exploring sounded wonderful. I’d barely gotten time to look around since we’d arrived and I needed to get into nature before I got stir crazy. Harper was like me in that aspect. It was one of my biggest fears about staying in Portland, that we’d be trapped indoors during the apocalypse and she wouldn’t be able to play outside.
Ember’s cabin had always been the dream.
And now…
The sight in the kitchen had my stomach rumbling. I couldn’t remember the last time I was this hungry. Malachy stood at the stove, wearing jeans and a thermal knit shirt that stretched across his muscled shoulders.
“Malachy!” Harper dropped my hand and raced ahead. I didn’t bother to hold her back. I was busy picking my jaw up off the floor.
The kitchen island was laden with enough breakfast food to feed an army. Though with Kieran and Lucan hovering closeby, it seemed a bit smaller than it was. Ember and Riley were already standing in line by their mates with plates at the ready, buffet style.
“What kind of pancakes are you making?” Harper stood on her tiptoes as she asked.
“I’ve got blueberry, chocolate chip, and banana.” He turned with a spatula in hand, meeting my gaze across the kitchen. “I wasn’t sure which flavor you’d like.”
Heat flared within me as the tug in my chest urged me closer.
“One of each, please,” Harper said.
I tore my eyes away and looked around for something to do, some way to help, and found everything in its place. There were utensils and napkins and condiments and drinks already waiting to be poured in cups.
And the heavenly scent of coffee rose stronger than the rest.
