I gulped.
“Drink up,” Harper urged. “You don’t look so good.”
“Mmmm…” I grinned as I raised the bowl to my lips, terrified of my next steps.
“What’s that?” Malachy thrust his finger toward the window as the gray clouds continued to gather outside.
“What’s what?”
The bowl was taken from my hand while Harper’s head was turned. I held in shocked laughter as Malachy drank the whole thing down and handed me back the bowl.
Harper was none the wiser as she turned around, standing on her toes to look into the empty bowl and then at the smile on my face.
“Good. You’re all better. Let’s go play.”
“Hang on, kid.” Malachy groaned as he climbed out of the bed. “How about you show me how to make that soup while we let your mom take a shower?”
He winked before pressing a chaste kiss to my cheek.
I swooned, watching him walk away.
“Did you just kiss my mom?” Harper gagged as he laughed.
Domesticated daddy Malachy was so hot.
“Earth to Willow.” Ember was snapping.
I tore my gaze away, looking past Ember and Riley to the window where the wind outside began to howl.
Had it been storming for days now?
That wasn’t good.
Harper needed fresh air. I did too.
“I told you she wasn’t okay,” Riley said as she pushed the door closed.
“What do you mean?” I blinked, tearing my gaze away from the window. “I’m fine.”
“Respectfully, as your best friend, believe me when I say that you are not fine and you are the worst liar on the planet,” Ember barked.
I scooted back on the bed as they both moved toward me. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Will you stop it?” Ember stomped her foot. “Stop worrying about our feelings and everyone’s feelings and trying so hard to keep the peace.”
I kept smiling, trying to ignore the anger creeping up. “What do you expect me to do? Yell and scream and rage about how nothing makes sense?”
“Yes!” Ember and Riley cried at the same time.
I flinched. “That doesn’t solve anything, though.”
“It’ll at least make you feel better.” Riley shrugged.
I laughed a little, knowing she was right.
Ember wasn’t amused. “You’re wasting away in here. It’s been almost a week and you’ve barely gotten out of bed. He can’t keep you locked away forever. It’s time to do something. Have you seen the news?”
“That’s not fair,” I rushed to defend Malachy. “Both you and Riley disappeared for weeks after your mating.”
