“Yeah, yeah I am.” And I felt that bone deep. Even more so since Ash came into my life.
“Alright, my love. It’s time for us to get to bed. I’ll work out the dates and text them to you tomorrow. I love you.”
“Love you too, Remy,” Kara called out.
“I love you both, and I can’t wait to see you.” Talking to them was the best end to a perfect day. Hearing their voices always made me feel better.
I grabbed a soda, logged into the server, and downloaded the updates the guys made. Hopefully, there were no more glitches. With completion came bonuses and a launch. If I were putting down roots here, it’d be great to have those extra funds to use to find a place. The RV is great and all, but I can’t change anything and make it my own, so it’ll never really feel like a home.
Lost in code was the story of my adult life and what happened every time I worked. My brain found an odd serenity in it, and everything else around me faded away. I swear at times it’s like the code came to life and the images the end-user saw was clear in my mind. Sounds insane, even to my own ears, but it was like a part of me. Intwined in the fibers of my being. Though I’ve never said it aloud for fear of being medicated, there was a calming effect when I worked, which generally resulted in losing all track of time.
Like it did now, as I caught a glimpse of the sunrise outside the window, then the yawns hit. I saved my progress and called it a night, err, morning, and crawled into bed.
I wonder if Ash is still sleeping.
Me: Just getting to bed. I’ll text when I’m up, maybe we can hang out? Can’t wait to see you again.
There, now when he wakes up he’ll have a message waiting from me. Eddy would see the timestamp when I logged off, so if he needed something he’d send a message. With my phone set to silent mode, I snuggled into bed, curled up around a pillow, and drifted off to sleep.
I wonder if Ash would like a garden.
That was the first thought that came to mind as I woke. How freaking random was that?
“You’re losing it, Remy.”
Likely due to lack of sleep.
“What time is it?” Am I the only one who asks myself that aloud? Probably.
Need…coffee…
Yes, my brain was clearly not braining without caffeine.
Stumbling through the RV, maybe bouncing off a couple of walls in the process, I managed to find the coffee machine and get a cup brewing. Doomscrollingthrough my phone, catching up on all the latest BS around the world, a text popped up from Ash.
Ash: I see you’re up.
Huh?
Ash: Cute boxers.
I glanced up and there he was, laughing and waving from across the yard. “Oh shit, Ha.” Forgot to close the blinds last night. I waved him over, then ran back to throw some clothes on. A quick sniff proved they were clean as I slid into them. I got to the kitchen just as he stepped inside.
“Morning,” my face widened in a smile, it was like I just couldn’t help it. Ash made me feel all kinds of happy when I was around him.
“More like afternoon. It’s almost three p.m. I um,” he nervously fidgeted. “Wanted to see if you were free for dinner tonight. My treat.”
“Ash, are you asking me on a date?” It was fun to tease him when he blushed so easily.
He straightened his shoulders and looked me in the eye. “Yes, I’m asking my boyfriend on a date.”
“Excellent. Your boyfriend is saying yes, though I have about two hours left of work. Would six work for you?”
“Six is perfect. Diner or Pints?” One of these days we should take a ride to the next town over and check out what options they’ve got.
“Let’s do the diner again, if that’s okay. Figured you’d want a break from work, and I’m sure you’d get pulled into helping out with who knows what if we went to Pints.”
“True. Okay, I’ll let you get back to it.” He paused for a second, then slowly stepped towards me and threw his arms around my midsection.
