Ash: Morning Remy. We’re hard at work. Come give us a kiss before you leave.
Me: Will do. Be down after I eat and thank you for breakfast.
Yup, I was one lucky man.
“Yum, pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon. Lucky and spoiled.” I took the plate from the oven, and as I sat down, I noticed a couple pieces of luggage in the living room. Kit must’ve dropped off Ash’s stuff already.
A longing hit me to be a part of this. Really, I already was, but knowing they would sleep together without me didn’t feel right. It wasn’t a lack of trust but a desire to be a part of everything with them.
Man, I had it bad.
“Morning.” The creamery wasn’t open yet, and as I descended the stairs into the back room, I found them both bopping around to the music playing.
“Morning, sleepyhead,” McClain shimmied over and kissed me. “Sleep well?”
“Yeah, you guys?” Ash nearly dove at me, and I wrapped my arms around him and pressed my lips to his.
“We did. You headed back to the RV? Kit brought my stuff this morning.”
“I saw that. I’ll probably bring a few things over later. I need to get some work done, but I’ll be back around dinner time.”
“Here, catch.” McClain tossed something jingly at me.
“A key.” I had a feeling I knew what it went to, but my heart wanted confirmation
“Yup, to all the doors at the creamery, including the one to the apartment.” I stared at the monumental step in my hand, and it hit me just how real this was. “Was thinking tonight we could clear out that spare room while Ash gets settled in. Maybe order a pizza?”
“Works for me. If you guys need my help, shoot me a text.”
“Will do,” Ash returned to work, humming and dancing. He had no idea how freaking cute he was. I hated leaving them, but the real world calls.
“Hey, mom.” I stepped inside to find her making lunch for the two of them.
“How’s Ash?”
“Singing and dancing in the backroom of the creamery when I left.”
“Good, I’m glad. He had me worried.”
“You and me both. He’s not a fan of crowds and even less so of ambushes.”
“Please know I had nothing to do with that.”
“I do, mom. Ash’s mom appears to have spearheaded it. She apologized, but Ash is keeping his distance until he calms down.” Sending him into another spiral like that would unleash the beasts in McClain and me.
“I um, I was surprised to find one of the men you’re dating to be around my age.” I wondered when she’d point that out. “But once I saw the three of you together, and how he swooped in and carried Ash out last night, well, let’s just say I may have swooned a bit.”
“Ha-ha, yeah that was pretty amazing. I dunno, I guess I never thought of the age difference, just the chemistry the three of us had.”
“Makes sense and I’m happy for you. I really do like Foggy, and I can see how you came to love it. Some of the residents may be a little…off, but their hearts seem to be in the right place. Kit mentioned half the town reaching out to him to make sure Ash was okay this morning.”
“Yesterday was a bit of an anomaly. I have a feeling Daisy invited everyone without realizing what she was doing. There’s a way to be nice, and then there’s going overboard, like she did.”
“Yes, and I didn’t know her or Ash well enough to point that out. She and John are very nice, though, and she feels horrible about the whole thing.”
“Well, what happens next is totally up to Ash.” And I’d back him one hundred percent, no matter what he decided.
