“Don’t say things like that…” She shied away from me with her eyes but remained in the hold that I had on her neck.
“Like what?” I chuckled, curious to know why she didn’t like what I had said.
“Things that you wouldn’t say in front of your parents.”
A deep burst of laughter escaped from my throat. Then, carefully dropping my hand from her neck, I made sure to be extra cautious of her hair before removing my hand entirely.
“You’re right. I wouldn’t say something like that in front of my parents.” I laughed while awkwardly scratching at my chin. “But good thing they aren’t here, right?” I winked, causing Blue to shake her head.
“And here I thought you were a gentleman.” She teased with a sigh as she leaned herself back onto her palms and peered up into the sky.
Brow shooting up, I watched her closely.
“Had to cash in on my win at some point, Blue.” I explained with a smirk. “I may have gone in guns blazing a little too hot, but I can promise I’ll keep my hands to myself the rest of our date. How about that?”
Her mouth cinches to the side as if contemplating how she was going to respond.
“I suppose I’m okay with that…” She tilted her chin up, then gradually shifted her eyes over to mine. “But I’m also okay with you holding me if you feel like watching the stars tonight.”
Fuck.
My heart exploded.
Of course, I wanted to hold her. That’s all I ever wanted to do since running into her.
Would she be opposed to staying in my arms forever?
“Of course, Blue.” I choked on the words a bit. “I’m down for anything if I get to have you in my arms.”
Using my palms, I hoisted myself up onto weak feet until I was in a standing position. I felt myself teetering a bit from the surge of emotions that hammered my gut. This girl was going to send me into an early grave with how affected I was by her words.
I was dizzy in love. Smacked dead center in my fucking heart, I was a goner for her.
With slow, careful steps, I maneuvered around the box of pizza until I was directly behind her. Then on an exhale, I lowered myself down. My long legs encased her short ones. My pounding chest pressed up against her back. Then, I finally took my arms and wrapped them around her middle.
There was nothing more perfect than this. A beautiful autumn night, an explosion of twinkling stars above our heads, and the warmth of my girl’s body leaning against mine. I wanted to bury my face into her neck and never leave this spot.
“Is this okay?” She asked as she laid her head back on my shoulder, only putting part of her weight against me, as if afraid I’ll tell her no.
Tightening my arms around her, I sunk my face into the crook of her neck and inhaled deeply until I could no longer breathe. Could she not see that even lying against me, I’d still want her closer?
“You tell me.” I mumbled into her hair, causing a shiver to break out across her body.
Chuckling to myself, I snuggled deeper into her neck until her scent became entwined with mine. Her floral, fresh scent mixed with whatever cologne I sprayed on was an intoxicating mixture I don’t think I’d ever forget. I wanted my clothes, bedding, fucking everything to smell of us.
“Now, let’s get down to the nitty gritty questions.” My mouth widened into a smile, knowing she’d most likely oppose it.
Sure enough, she groaned.
“Questions? What kind of questions?” She tilted her head back as her eyes met mine.
“The first date kind. I want to know everything there is to know about you. What makes you happy, what makes you sad, where you came from, what your favorite food is…” I find myself transfixed by the angle of her face and how she’s looking at me. I scaled my eyes over the pert little freckled nose to the way her whole face is illuminated under the stars. But even with a sky full of glimmering stars, all I could see was her. There was no one and nothing else but her.
“That’s a lot of questions.” She giggled, but it slowly dwindled into a sigh. “Are you sure you want to know everything?”
The way she asked made my heart sink. There was apprehension in her tone. Even the sadness behind her laugh tugged painfully at my heartstrings.
“Lately, I haven’t been sure about a lot of things. Hockey, life, my future… but then, you came along.” My eyes never wavered from hers as the words tumbled out of my mouth. Then leaning down, I placed a kiss on the tip of her nose. “And became my fucking everything. So yeah, Blue, I want to know all there is to know about you.”
