The subtle differences in her body were not so subtle any longer. The more progressed she was in her pregnancy, the fuller and curvier her body got. Even her cheeks had plumped up a bit, but in all my years, I don’t think I’ve ever seen her more beautiful than she looked now.
And she didn’t seem to mind that her body was changing. Neither did James.
If anything, he can’t seem to keep his hands off of her now.
“I'm teasing you.” I narrowed my eyes playfully at her. “My godson was hungry too.”
Rolling her eyes, she leaned back in her chair and ran her palm over her growing belly.
“Your godson is the size of a cauliflower, can you believe that?”
I stared at her stomach in awe.
“Really?” I asked.
Where had the time gone? It seemed like yesterday when he was the size of a bean and here he was now, three months away from making an appearance.
“Yeah.” She smiled proudly. “It’s going by too fast.”
I couldn’t agree more.
“Way too fast,” I mumbled just as our waitress came by to check on us.
After declining a dessert menu and paying our bill, we were finally walking out the door when something had caught my eye on the busy sidewalk. Even though it was dark and crowded, I could recognize that tall, broad frame anywhere.
Mal.
And next to him was a grinning James.
My heart rate began its ascent as our eyes had finally connected over the shoulders of strangers walking past them. A look of relief spread over his face, but it was the tilt of his mouth that had me melting into the floor.
God, he was so handsome.
The need to run to him overwhelmed me, but when Kate rushed past me and flew into her husband's arms, I decided not to make an even bigger scene.
“What are you doing here?” She lathered his face in kisses until he gently pulled her off to lay a claim on her mouth.
“Thought we’d crash your little girls’ night.” He gently poked her on the nose. “It was Mal’s idea.” He motioned with his head toward Mal, causing my focus to immediately snap over to him. Already, he was watching me but he tossed a glare over at James for ratting him out.
I should’ve been annoyed with him. I should’ve felt something other than intensely happy that he decided to come here, but I was.
I was beyond happy. Beyond relieved that he missed me just as fiercely as I had missed him.
Closing the distance between us, I forced myself to not throw my arms around his neck and cover his face with endless kisses. Instead, I peered up at the man I was falling so easily for and watched as his entire body softened from my presence.
“Is that true?” I teased while holding my hands behind my back.
His chest puffed out as if he refused to admit he was the mastermind. Even his eyes wavered from mine for a brief second before they trailed over the length of my body.
My skin ignited.
“I was struggling,” he admitted on a low whisper, causing my heart to flutter.
His heated eyes continued to roam over the length of my dress and seconds later, he was taking a step toward me when he fingered the yellow fabric.
“Is this yours?” he asked, his nostrils flaring with each passing second he held on to the dress.
My breathing had caught in my throat at his closeness, causing all my senses to go haywire.
