“No.Not at all.But if we want to pick up something we can reheat, we could do that now and not have to go back out later.or we can eat at the on-site restaurant.Or if you want, we can go out again.I was just thinking that once you get back to the room and kick off your heels, you might not want to go out again.”

“I like that you’re thinking ahead, and I love the idea of not going out again.Let me think about it for a bit. There’s also delivery if we decide we want something the restaurant doesn’t serve.I know I saw several places listed in the directory binder that’s in the desk drawer.I saw it when I was looking for something the first night I was here.”

“I didn’t even think to look.”He started the engine.“Do we need to stop and get anything?Wine?Snacks?Anything else?”

“Not that I can think of,” Selena said with a shake of her head.“And if we decide to stay in tonight, then we can figure out what to order or whatever when we’re ready.”

“Sounds like a plan.So back to the hotel?”Sackett had learned from his father not to make assumptions about what anyone wanted.Always get them to say it out loud so he could be sure.It saved a lot of trouble and heartache later.

“Back to the hotel.”

Sackett thought about Selena and the enigma that she presented as he drove. This strong woman who stood up to him, and he knew many women found his size intimidating, even if he didn’t try to use it that way.But at the same time the thoughtful person who, from a brief conversation figured out that he would love a place like the used books shop she’d just taken him too.Well, taken was a bit of a stretch, as he’d paid for his own books.Thankfully, she hadn’t even suggested she pay for them. Not that he would have let her but still.

He kept his eye out as he parked the car.He took her bag of books along with his own, while Selena carried her briefcase, and they went up to the room.

In the elevator, Sackett found himself watching her as she faced the door and waited. What was it about her that drew him? He’d been working hard to keep how bad he wanted her to himself. To not let her see it, for fear she would decide she didn’t need anyone to make sure that group of crazies didn’t try to use her as leverage again. That would make his job, to keep her safe, even harder.

When they made it to the room, Selena headed straight to the bedroom.

“Want something to drink?”Sackett called as he went to the refrigerator and pulled out a bottle of water for himself.

“A bottle of water would be great,” she said.“I’m going to change.I’ll be right out.”She closed the door as he pulled out a second bottle for her, then replaced them both from the case they’d bought when they’d gone shopping the evening before.

Sackett carried both bottles of water to the sofa, along with his bag of books and sat, trying not to think about Selena only a few feet away, removing her clothes and what she would look like. His dick stiffened, making his jeans uncomfortably tight. He glanced at the door, not wanting her to catch him like this. Not wanting her to know he couldn’t keep his mind off her.

He shifted, then forced himself to think of something different. He mentally cleaned the pistol he carried, something he’d done so often he could do it in his sleep.

By the time the bedroom door opened once more, he’d managed to wrangle his body into some semblance of behavior.Or at least made it not so obvious.

“Thank you,” Selena said, sitting beside him on the sofa as she picked up the cold bottle he’d left for her on the table in front of where they both sat.

Sackett tried not to watch as she cracked open the bottle and tipped it back, but found himself captivated by the way her throat moved as she swallowed.

“What?”she asked when she realized he was watching her.“Do I have something on my face?”

“No,” he looked away, knowing he should have better control than this, “I just got distracted.”What he couldn’t tell her is that what distracted him was the way her tits moved under the sweatshirt. They had just enough wiggle and bounce that he could tell she’d taken off her bra.He wondered for a moment what color her nipples would be and how they would taste.

He picked up the remote and handed it to her, keeping his eyes forward. She leaned back and propped one bare foot up on the edge of the table.Sackett couldn’t help but notice the bright purple of her toenails. As buttoned down and put together as she looked when she was working, she was just as cute, feminine, and unreserved when she was relaxed.

She’d let her hair down from the prim bun low on her neck that she kept it in while she worked, but now it was piled on top of her head in a messy knot. His fingers ached to find whatever bands, pins or whatever she used to keep it up and remove it.He wanted to see it tumbling down, curling around her face.Spread out on his pillow.

Shit.

Thoughts like that were not how to keep his cock under control.

She flipped through the channels for a moment, then settled on something Sackett didn’t recognize. He stared unseeing at the TV as he let his mind wander. After a bit, he dug his e-reader from his pocket, powered it on and turned his attention to the book he’d been reading at the courthouse and let himself get lost in the story.

Out of habit, he didn’t become so lost in his book that he wasn’t aware of what Selena was doing. She watched whatever it was she’d turned the TV to and moved around, but he did his best to ignore it and not push himself into her space. The last thing he needed was for her to decide she wasn’t comfortable with him and try to get him out of her space.

Not that he would go without a fight, but he didn’t want her to try and make him go.

She wished she could say she found those things disturbing, or even unsettling, but it was just the opposite.Having him there, even if he was quiet and unmoving, was somehow comfortable.

With the TV on, and him sitting on the other end of the sofa, she wished she had one of her fuzzy blankets so she could curl up with it.No that she was cold, she wasn’t, but she liked the feeling of being wrapped up in a blanket sometimes, and if she was at home, that’s what she would do.Instead, since she was a bit restless, she pulled out her phone to scroll social media, while still listening to the TV.
