My cheeks felt hot at his observation. “Why do you say that?”
“Because the way you’re looking at me right now is quite similar to that night.”
“And how am I looking at you?” I swallowed, realizing he could see right through me.
“Like you want to choke on my cock.”
A laugh ruptured from me, and Lucas’s smirk widened into a full smile. A dangerously beautiful smile. He slipped off his dress shoes and unbuttoned his pants, pushing them down along with his boxers.
Abruptly, my laugh stopped again as I took in the very large, oddly good-looking erection in front of me. “I’d definitely choke on that,” I whispered.
Lucas chuckled just as he climbed over my body. The feverish warmth of his skin burned the chill of the room from me. He kissed me sweetly before gazing down at me, his piercing eyes eating up every inch of my face. “Are you scared?”
I shook my head. “No.”
“Good.” Another kiss landed on my lips. This time, Lucas swept his tongue in. The mixture of our flavors sent butterflies through my belly. His length brushed against my leg, begging to be let into the most intimate part of me.
Suddenly a crash sounded, and Lucas jumped to his feet, immediately pulling on his pants.
“What was that?” I asked as I sat up and pulled the comforter around me.
“I don’t know. Stay here.” He opened his nightstand and pulled out his gun, throwing open the bedroom door and disappearing down the hall.
For a few moments, I waited and strained my hearing to see if I could make anything out. But I couldn’t handle the curiosity any longer, so I quickly threw on a T-shirt from Lucas’s drawer and crept down the hall.
“Lucas?” I called out. There was no response.
A creak from the direction of my room was the only thing I heard.
“Lucas?” I repeated. My feet inched forward until I reached the door. A sudden chill enveloped me as I trudged my bare feet across the bitter floor. Ice flooded my veins in place of the inferno Lucas had created, extinguishing any warmth I felt. Not even the smallest of embers flickered within me.
As I entered my dark room, an unsettling chill skated across my skin. Goosebumps prickled to life and spread rapidly down my arms and legs, a shiver rolling through me with the feeling of not being alone. Before I even had the opportunity to flip the light switch on, a hand pressed against my mouth, and my body was pushed up against the wall.
Panic surged, and without a moment’s thought, I shrieked beneath the hand that muffled me. And then I blindly swung with all my might. A masculine grunt sounded and then retreated from restraining me.
“Fuck,” a familiar voice said.
I flipped on the light switch and my mouth popped open in surprise. It only took seconds before my bewilderment was replaced with anger. Sheer fury aimed directly at my oldest friend.
I did the only thing I could think of… I took two swift steps in his direction and swung at him again. His head snapped back, and he stumbled a step.
“You bastard!” I screamed. “What are you doing here?”
Frankie held his reddened cheek. “What the fuck, Roe?”
“That’s not an answer.” I pulled back my arm again.
“Wait. Wait. I came here to get you.” His blond hair fell over his brows as he lifted his hands in placation. “I found out where you were, and I climbed up the side of the house. We can leave now.”
“Leave?” I seethed. “What makes you think I would go anywhere with you?” Molten rage poured into me, boiling over and splattering not just my soul but my heart. Because Frankie had broken it when he left me to fend for myself. He had always promised to stick by my side through Hell or high water.
A frown marred his face as his gaze slid over my attire. “What are you wearing?”
I crossed my arms over my chest. “Don’t you dare change the subject.” I tapped my fingers against my bicep.
“What…” Frankie grabbed my hand and inspected my ring finger. The large diamond glinted in the light.
I tugged my hand away from his grip just as the pounding of feet echoed through the hall. “Monroe. Are you okay?” Lucas’s voice barked.
