“Possibly the average jet. Not these. They’re completely controlled by biometrics. Fingerprints, palm prints, eye scans, and a few other things I can’t mention. It wouldn’t matter how much these pilots tell them. They wouldn’t be able to get to the jets.”
“What if they’re telling them about the biometrics?” asked Ulani. Wyatt took in a deep breath and shook his head.
“They wouldn’t.”
“Why?” asked Barber.
“Because they don’t know. I was the only one on the team who knew how they were flown.”
CHAPTER SEVEN
“Sir! What do you mean I’m on leave?” cried Wyatt.
“They’ll come for you next, O’Neal. You know they will. I can’t let them get to you and possibly those planes.”
“Wait,” said Ulani, raising her hand.
“Who are you again?” asked his commander.
“Agent Ulani Dunvegan, CID.”
“Dunvegan?” he groaned. “Are you fucking kidding me? O’Neal, I knew who you were, but you’re dating Dunvegan’s daughter?”
“How did you know we were dating?” he asked.
“You’d be a fucking moron if you weren’t. Or, if you are…” he smirked. He looked at Ulani and nodded.
“Sir, you know that my family could provide support on this. CID doesn’t have enough agents, but my family definitely does. Let us call them,” said Ulani.
Wyatt wanted to say, ‘no way,’ but he knew that he wouldn’t win this argument. He would either be forced to go home, take leave, and stall the testing of the jets, or he would have to comply with this.
“Jesus, I’m really opening myself up for some bullshit,” he groaned. Commander Asa Morris was as hard as they come. He’d been an active-duty pilot who flew multiple combat missions, including one that had him landing in the North Sea. He was no slouch.
“Let us call them,” said Ulani.
“What about your director? How will he feel about this?” asked Morris.
“Well, I’m sure he would hate it if they were working as agents. But we’ll let him know they’re working as security,” she smiled.
“I’ll do one better,” said Morris. “We’re not going to tell him at all. If he knew, he’d fire you, Dunvegan.” She nodded, knowing he was telling the truth.
“Sir?”
“Yeah. Yeah, go ahead. But I don’t want twenty of those animals on my base. Five.”
“Five, sir?” frowned Ulani.
“Ten. No more than ten!” She grinned, nodding at him as she walked out of his office. He looked at Wyatt and raised his brows. “I always knew you were ballsy, but dating Dunvegan’s daughter? That’s plain stupidity, son.”
Wyatt just chuckled.
“He’s a good man, sir. I’ve known Ulani her entire life and her parents, who are amazing people.”
“Mmhmm. And her aunt, former CIA. And her uncle, a former SEAL built like a fucking brick wall. Your funeral.”
“Sir, why weren’t we warned about what was happening to the pilots?” he asked.
“I was told not to mention it and cause panic. I kept telling you guys that you needed to keep your dick in your pants and not go out so much, but you didn’t listen.”
