“Good morning, guys. I have some news about the drug in the syringe the girl had yesterday.”
“Let me have it,” said Ulani.
“It’s basically an amped up version of GHB.”
“The date rape drug? Wait. These guys weren’t sexually assaulted after the fact. Some had sex before, but not after,” said Ulani.
The others filtered down from their showers or the other room, listening intently to Hiro.
“I’m just repeating what Suzette and Riley told me. They’re surprised that the drug wasn’t found in their systems, but said it looks as if they were given multiple doses, then it was stopped a day or two before their release.”
“GHB makes the victim do what they’re told. It’s like an out-of-body experience where they act out whatever is asked of them,” frowned Carter. “What are they asking these guys to do?”
“I don’t know, but I think we spend the next few days talking to our pilots again,” said Ulani. “Hiro? Can you see if Bree and Ashley are available to come here?”
“Already done. They’re on their way and will meet you at the house. They said anyone you want them to talk to should come to the house. They wanted it in an environment away from their places of work.”
“I love you, Hiro. Thank you,” smiled Ulani.
“I’ll see if I can get the pilots here this afternoon,” said Wyatt, walking toward the living room.
“We’ll take a stroll down Imperial Beach, just to see if we can see anything suspicious,” said U-Jin. “You never know if they’re there scoping possible targets.”
“You guys do that, and I’ll schedule a call with the G.R.I.P. team to see if they can shed any light on what these people might have hoped to find,” said HG. Ulani smiled at her family and friends.
“Sounds like we have a plan. Let’s do this.”
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
“Ashley, Bree? These are the pilots that were taken. This is Quentin Davis, Zane Jackson, Lucas White, and Daniel Martinez.”
“Gentlemen, we’re sorry to meet under such circumstances,” said Ashley.
“Ma’ams,” said Quentin, nodding. “Obviously, it’s not our finest hour, and being grounded isn’t exactly helping our mood.”
“Well, we’re going to try and help with that,” said Bree.
“How? No offense, ma’am, but until we know what they did to us, we can’t fly again,” said Lucas.
“Our team has done a lot of research on GHB. In fact, we have something that will help to take you back to the moment of the injection and hopefully fill in some gaps for you.”
“No offense, ma’am, but I’m not keen on getting drugged again,” said Daniel.
“I can understand that,” nodded Ashley, “but you have our word that it will only last about thirty minutes. You’ll wake and remember everything you told us.”
“Everything?” frowned Zane.
“Everything.” The pilots looked at one another and nodded.
“Alright. Let’s get this over with.”
“We’ve been thinking a lot about this,” said Ryan. “U-Jin was right. Other than telling you the capabilities of the jets, the pilots wouldn’t be able to describe how it was built, the computer systems, propulsion systems, nothing. They don’t even know how the navigation, tracking, and targeting systems work.”
“Well, that pisses in my cereal,” frowned HG. “Then why? Why drug them, keep them four days, and then send them on their way?”
“They may just want to know how to fly the jets,” said Savannah. “If they’re planning on stealing a jet, they would need to know that. If they have the jet, they reverse engineer.”
“Shit,” muttered Ethan.
