“I’m going to bet she’d like that,” laughed Kev.

Ethan stood, stretching and cracking his back.

“Well, I’m stuffed. I’m gonna shower and hit the sack. We’ll regroup in the morning and find a plan. Maybe those cops will remember something that they didn’t today.” Ulani looked at her father, nodding.

“We can only hope.”

The morning temperatures were much cooler than the previous days. Ulani pulled on sweatpants and a sweatshirt, hoping to be able to enjoy her coffee on the patio. With her mug full, she stepped outside only to be greeted by the other house guests and a roaring fire in the fire pit.

“That cold, huh?” she smirked.

“It was the one thing I never got used to,” said Ani. “The dramatic shifts in temperature got me every time.”

“I don’t mind it,” said Ulani. “I’m glad I remembered to bring my sweats. What’s on the agenda for today?”

They heard the doorbell, and Carter jumped up to get it. A few moments later, he returned with one of the police officers.

“Good morning. Sorry it’s so early,” he said.

“Please don’t be,” said Ulani. “Let me introduce you to everyone. Ethan, my father. HG, my soon-to-be father-in-law. Christian, Ashley, Bree, Rush, Carter, Noa, Ani, Kelsey, BJ, Abe, Kev, Dan, Nate, Moose, U-Jin, and Tobias.”

“I remember some of you from yesterday, but I’ll never remember all those names,” he said nervously. “I guess fair-is-fair. I didn’t share my name yesterday. Mateo Simon.”

“Mateo, would you like some coffee?” asked Kelsey.

“Yes, ma’am. It’s a common thing between cops and the military,” he grinned.

“What brings you here so early on a Saturday?” asked Wyatt.

“I wasn’t sure if there were cameras or recordings happening in the room yesterday, so I probably didn’t give every detail.”

“Why?” asked Ulani.

“Listen, the chief is a good guy, but he’s also someone who uses things against you later on. I’ve already got this x-mark against me. I didn’t need another.”

“Alright,” said HG. “We’re listening.” Mateo handed them a sealed plastic bag.

“I wasn’t sure I was going to use this. I didn’t want to give it to our lab.”

“It’s a fake fingernail,” frowned Ulani. He nodded.

“It was, it was in my underwear,” he said, humiliated. The men all looked at him, nodding.

“Mateo, you were drugged. This isn’t your fault,” said Carter. “Did you remember this woman touching you sexually?”

“No,” he said, shaking his head. “We kissed. I remembered that, but I never remembered her touching me orme touching her. Like the others, I was so fucking embarrassed I didn’t want to tell anyone anything. When I woke, I drove straight home and stripped my clothes off and jumped in the shower.

“I could tell that someone, a woman, had been, uh, on me. I mean, you know what I mean, right? I could see the dried - fluid,” he frowned.

“So, you entered a woman?” asked Ulani.

“I don’t remember that. I just remember seeingiton my dick. Sorry, ma’ams.”

“That’s not anything to be sorry for,” said Ani. “Speak truthfully and direct, and it will help them.”

“This woman didn’t put a condom on me. Obviously, I didn’t remember needing one. I was sick. I cried in the shower, I was so upset. When I got out, I searched my pockets to be sure I hadn’t been robbed. Nothing was missing, but the nail fell out of my underwear.”

“Can we get DNA from that?” asked Noa.
