“I know it sounds insane and I didn’t want to say anything, but I can’t keep it from you anymore. You deserve to know.”

“Dad is alive?”

He nods. “But you don’t know where?”

He shakes his head.

“How sure are you?” My voice quivers and I clench my hand into a fist so I can keep it together.

“Sure enough to be able to tell you now.”

“Fuck. And Pete did this?”

“It looks that way.”

“I’m going to fucking KILL HIM!” I thunder, getting off the bed and storming towards the door.

“Whoa,” Harvey says, appearing in the doorway, effectively blocking me from going anywhere. “Who are you going to kill?”

“Pete,” I growl.

Harvey exchanges a look with Derek, who just shrugs. He sighs and rubs his hand over his face. “We agreed we wouldn’t tell her yet.”

“Oh no!” I scream, going slightly homicidal and launching myself at Harvey. “You don’t get to keep secrets like that from me. Trust? Trust? You want me to fucking trust you?”

“Hang on a minute,” Harvey yells at me, to try to get me to listen to him over my shrieking.

“No,youhang on a minute! You had no right, none of you.” Spinning around, I make a sweeping gesture with my broken arm and end up whacking someone in the chest with it.

“Owww!” I scream, pissed off now.

“Faith,” Sebastian says. Being the one I whacked, he seems decidedly calm. “We didn’t want to get your hopes up.”

“My arm,” I squeak with tears pouring out of my eyes.

“Okay, yes. Doctor Fancy-pants is waiting downstairs.” He gives me a cautious smile.

“Did he bring his portable x-ray thingie?” I sniff.

“Well, more like an entire x-ray unit, but it’s downstairs and waiting for you.”

I nod, worn out and in agony. I allow Sebastian to help me down the stairs, while I cradle my arm gingerly.

“I’m sorry we didn’t tell you,” he whispers into my ear. “We didn’t tell you, to protect you.”

“That’s not fair. I had a right to know, and you can’t be mad at me for sneaking out, when you’ve been keeping a huge secret from me.”

“I know,” he says, looking down, reasonably chastised for a prime alpha. He’s humouring me, I’m sure.

I lose all my fight under the screaming pain in my arm. “Please fix me.”

“I’ll try my best,” he says with a smile, and I lean into him, enjoying his strength as he props me up and leads me down the stairs and long hallway at the bottom, to a previously unseen room, that indeed reveals, an entire x-ray unit.

I sit dutifully and wince when Fancy-pants takes the makeshift cast off, softly crying when he positions it where he needs it. As I sit there, I wonder how much all of this cost Sebastian to arrange. A few grand, he said. Nope. A few hundred grand? More like.

Soon I’m all done and being led over to another area where a friendly looking nurse is preparing my real cast.

“Will you be the first to sign it?” I ask Sebastian with a wan smile.
