“Nice. I see your new pals have taught you some lovely new insults.”
“Don’t,” he warns me as I sit down and look away from the needle that is about to be jabbed into my arm.
I’m not squeamish, but…okay, yes, I’m squeamish. Not at the sight of blood as a whole, just my own when it’s being sucked up a tube with a gross gurgling noise that makes me want to vom.
Richard snorts through his busted nose and then yelps with pain. “Some things never change.”
“Fuck off.”
I keep looking in the opposite direction. “The omega…” I pause because I have no idea how to ask him. I don’t even know how to talk to him anymore.
“Is she safe?” His words tumble quickly through his split lips.
“Yeah, Spence and Will got her home. She’s fine. Scared and confused, but safe.” I’m not telling him that she’s been asking about him constantly.
Growing a pair, I blurt out, “What’s she to you? Your mate?”
“I wish,” he grits out, shifting to get more comfortable but not finding it. “She deserves better than me.”
“Don’t,” I snap, getting pissed off suddenly. “Don’t go looking for pity from me. You’re a fucking bellend.”
“I know.”
“No, you don’t. You just fucking left, not a word in over eight years. There areno wordsto express how much of a cuntweedyouare.”
“You’re not telling me anything I don’t already know, Jay.”
“Fuck. Off.” I give him the middle finger and then inhale sharply when the doctor, who I'd forgotten was even there, removes the needle from my arm, having sucked enough blood out of me.
He sticks a plaster on the jab wound and I roll down my sleeve. Standing up, ignoring the headspin, I growl, “We’ve been searching for you for years. Seeing you now, I wish we hadn’t bothered.”
“Fuck off then and leave me alone, arsehole. I never asked to be found.”
I resist the urge to punch him in his already battered face. Instead, I stalk out of the room and out of the house, Cameron, scrambling to catch up with me.
“So, we’re just leaving him?” he asks as I fire up the stolen Escort.
“Get in and shut up or stand there yapping to no one.”
Without hesitation, he gets in and I shoot off at breakneck speed in the direction of home. This day has gone to the dogs, and I need a stiff drink. Also, I need to find out more about this omega and what in the hellfire she was doing entangled in this mess. Her accident was definitely set up, but why? Did they target her or just any unmated omega? Spence has been very tight lipped about anything she’s told him, saying he will have that conversation with me and Cam when we get home. I get it.
We need to have a big old pack meeting about all of the events that unfolded today.
To say that I’m not looking forward to it, is a vast understatement, and once again I curse Richard for being a selfish prick.
Pulling up outside our house in Chelsea about twenty minutes later, I get the distinct impression thatsomeoneforgot to mention that the house was being staked out.
“Fucking Spence,” I growl. I turn on Cam. “Did you know about this?”
He shakes his head, taking in the three strategically placed vehicles outside our home, as blindingly out of place on our exclusive street as this jacked Escort. Cam and I stay where we are as I pull out my phone and ring Spencer.
“You nearly back?”
“Spencer,” I state in my most businesslike voice. “Did you know that the house is being watched?”
“Yep. Didn’t you get my message?”
Frowning, I pull my phone away to check. “Nope,” I growl.
