“Rayne…”
“Mmm.” The delicious murmur sends a shiver down my spine.
“Cam,” Spencer says, giving me a sassy look. “Come with me.” He grabs the younger man and hauls him down the hallway whispering furiously and gesturing wildly.
“Uhm…am I supposed to come to this pack meeting?” I call out, feeling like that popped out left tit again.
When no one replies, I shrug and shovel more ice cream in my mouth. I saunter after them, wondering why Richard left this pack with his twin and younger brother. I’m also left wondering and concerned about where he isnowand if he is really okay. That was left a bit up in the air.
Walking past the door that leads to the kitchen, I hear the men in a room a few paces away. I follow the noise and peek around the door to see a large sunken lounge with huge, squishy white leather couches and a massive TV on the wall. The glass doors at the opposite end, lead out to a courtyard where I can see a patio set and barbecue, along with some big pots of colourful flowers.
“Rayne.”
I look over at James, and venture further into the room.
“Come in, sit down,” he says, gesturing to the squishy couch.
I linger in the doorway like a fart in a thunderstorm. Dithering and debating about whether I should make myself at home or not.
He gives up on me in the end and carries on talking. He is telling William and Cameron about his twin brother, and how they have been estranged for eight years after Richard just left in the middle of the night.
“It wasn’t until a few months ago that Spencer and I made the decision to find him again. We figured leaving him to his own devices would make him see sense, and life gets in the way, but eventually it became clear that we needed to go to him. Finding him today was no coincidence. We knew he would be at that house.”
He slides his gaze across to me briefly before addressing his pack again. “We took him to a doctor that Cam knows, and we got into an argument. I walked out. I’ll go back for him tomorrow.” He heaves a heavy sigh. “I hope we can integrate him into the pack, as he belongs here with us.”
“So he’s really okay?” I ask into the silence that falls.
Those blue eyes that are exactly the same as Richard’s, search mine. “He’ll be fine.” Moving his gaze back to the alphas sitting on the couch in front of him while he stands in front of the TV, he asks, “Any questions?”
When no one says anything, I raise my shaky hand like the nervous new kid in school. “I need to go home.”
“No can do,” James says. “You know about the cars out front. Spencer very briefly told me the situation and I’ve connected the rest of the dots. You need to stay here for your own and your family’s safety. We believe you were targeted for a reason and until you are completely safe, we cannot in good conscience let you leave.”
“But there is something that I need,” I say desperately.
“We can provide you with anything you need. Jones is also picking up your car and taking it to get the tyre replaced. He will bring your belongings as soon as he has figured out a way into the house undetected.”
“No, you don’t understand,” I persist. “It’s medication.”
If it was possible for the room to go even quieter, it just did.
“What kind of medication?” James asks.
My cheeks flame. “Well, that’s a bit personal,” I fluster.
“Is it lifesaving?”
“Well…err…no…”
“Then we can get you whatever it is in a few days.”
“That’s too late!” I exclaim. “I need itnow. Today!”
“Is it not in your belongings?” Spencer asks.
“No, I think I lost it on the side of the road when I was grabbed earlier.” I’m starting to get wound up here.
“I’m sure we can sort you out with another prescription…”
