“Are you sure about this?” he asks. “You haven’t known them very long and…”
“I’ve never been more sure about anything in my life. They have proven themselves worthy over and over again. There is no doubt in my mind they are my heart and soul. They are my mates.”
If I didn’t know better, I’d say that was a tear shining in my dad's eye. But he drags me to him, giving me a crushing hug. When he pulls away, he is back to normal.
“I guess we will send you your stuff then,” he says awkwardly, clearing his throat.
“If it’s safe to do, can I come back and pack it up myself?”
He nods, his face breaking out into a smile. “Yes, please, do that.”
I return his smile and grab his hand. “You have exposed yourself today, Daddy. Will you be okay?”
“Don’t worry about me, Ray-ray. It'll take more than a few thugs to take me down.”
He squeezes my hand and then with a quick wave, he leaves, heading down the steps, leaving me more worried than his words suggest, but needing to trust that he knows what he’s doing.
ChapterForty-Nine
Rayne
I close the front door and look back at the alphas.
“What did he mean when he said this isn’t over, and you wanted to talk to us?” I ask James before anyone moves away.
He runs his hand through his hair and blows out a breath. “We need to move. We won’t be going far, but away enough so that any last thug that went underground will know you aren’t here.”
“Oh. Sorry,” I murmur, looking down and feeling bad that they have to give up their home because of me.
“Stop apologising, Rayne,” he warns me in that tone that excites me. “It comes at a good time anyway, we need an extra bedroom, and I have just the place.” He exchanges a knowing look with Richard, who groans.
“Nooooo.”
“Sorry, it works for us.”
“Where?” I ask, curiosity getting the better of me.
“Kensington, our childhood home. It was always going to be the plan further down the line when we had kids…” He trails off, avoiding my eyes.
“I want kids,” I blurt out like an idiot. “Lots of them.”
His gaze catches mine and he smiles. “Me too.”
“All of us,” Spencer says, but then frowns at Richard. “Well, dunno about you.”
“We don’t need to discuss that yet,” I say hastily, letting Richard off the hook. He’s been on so many lately, just give the guy a break.
He gives me a grateful smile, but answers anyway. “Yes, I want kids.”
I nod and give him a soft smile and change the subject. “So, Kensington? That’s posher than here.”
James snickers. “Kind of. The house has been waiting for us since our parents downsized.”
“Nice. So, when do we go?”
“Immediately. IPP is sending in a team to move us… probably the same ones who moved you a few years ago.”
I nod, having figured that one out already. “We go in the dead of night?”
