She whimpers, rotating her hips. It turns into a low purr when she leans forward, her hands on my damp chest and she scrapes her sharp nails over my hot skin.

“My alpha,” she murmurs, the purr still thrumming through her body. “Mine. Your cock is covered inmyslick. It’s mine, as are you.”

My heart slams into my ribs when I know what she’s going to do. I sit up suddenly, waiting with bated breath for her to bare her teeth. She does, opening her mouth wide before she clamps down on the side of my neck, biting me, marking me,matingme.

“Fuck!” I roar, my hand on the back of her head. “Rayne.”

Her name turns into a growl as she draws my blood.

When she releases me, I fist my hand into her loose hair and pull her head to the side. I lick her skin, right over her jugular. She lets out a mewl and soaks my knot even more with slick. I waste no more time. I bite her roughly, my hand tightening in her hair.

She trembles in my arms as I give her the bite I’ve been waiting all these months for. I’m honoured that she chose me to mate with first. It doesn’t mean anything, but I’m still grateful and more in love with her than I was yesterday.

I draw back, my mouth full of her blood and meet Richard’s eyes. They are hooded and difficult to read.

Things have been, not tense, per se, between us since he returned, but we haven’t had a chance to really talk about him leaving and how that affected me. Neither one of us wants to bring it up.

Casting my gaze briefly to James in acknowledgement of his prime status, almost as if I’m asking his permission. When he nods emphatically, I smile at Rich and hand our omega over to him when my knot deflates.

He takes her with a grateful smile and kisses her, accepting the olive branch in the form of Rayne, the tie that has brought him back to us.

ChapterFifty-Two

Richard

Resisting the urge to kiss my idiot younger brother for handing me our omega to mate with next, I smile at him. Things have been weird since I came back, but I think we just, without words, cleared the air between us. He felt let down by me and I get that. But he has built up a solid, great relationship with James and I’m thankful that they turned to each other when I left.

“I need to pee,” Rayne says loudly, drawing my attention back to the omega in my arms.

I chuckle and release my hold on her. She stands up and stumbles over the blankets as I slap her peachy arse lightly.

“Don’t be long,” I order.

She sticks two fingers up at me and I know now she will deliberately take forever to come back and see to my aching cock. I deserve it. No one tells her what to do. She is a force to be reckoned with. Her strength is theonlything that has seen me through the return to the pack, and finding my place in it with two strangers who are wary about my every move. As if I’m about to kill James and claim prime in a hostile takeover worthy of a movie.

When we hear the shower running after the toilet flushes, I laugh out loud, and shake my head. “She’s a firecracker.”

“She’s mine,” Spencer says. “You all can fuck off now and leave me and my mate alone.” His joking tone does nothing to quell the possessive growls that reverberate around the nest.

“Kidding!” he says, holding his hands up, laughing maniacally. “Aggressive, much?”

“Fuck off,” I snarl, but follow it up with a smile. “We good?” I add, needing to clear the air right now with all of us before Rayne comes back.

He frowns and sits up straighter. “Yeah. I’ve seen that your leaving wasn’t really a choice. It was a necessity. I wish you’d spoken to us about it, but what’s done is done.”

I nod, thankful he didn’t make a bigger deal out of it. They all know my reasons for leaving now. I gave James permission to tell them. It was the only way to make them see that I wasn’t trying to be a selfish cunt.

I cast my gaze over to William and Cameron. “I’m not going to ruin the dynamics of this pack. James is prime. That is not going to change. He was the one that brought you into the pack. You are his friends that he’s known for ages. He is the one who knows you. But he is my brother and I belong here. I hope one day you will feel more at ease with me being here.”

“We do,” Cameron says quickly. “But thanks for saying that.”

William grunts, which I’ve come to learn is his way of acknowledging words. The only one he really talks to is Rayne. But that’s fine. I don’t take it personally.

When we hear the shower turning off, we wait for Rayne to come back to us, which she does a few minutes later, dried but still naked.

“Making us wait is mean,” I murmur, giving her a pout that makes her laugh.

“Sorry,” she giggles and drops into my lap. “I was sweaty and hot.”
