I slip out, knowing Sophia won’t go anywhere. She was suspicious at first, I think, but she seems to have come around.
“Atlas.”
I turn toward the voice. “What is it, Nico?”
“Have you got Sophia?” The accusation is there, bold and bright.
“I do. I need to get what I came for, so if you don’t mind…” It’s a dismissal, but not one he is taking lightly. He follows me down the hallway and out into the main banking area. I’m a man on a mission and I will not be denied. This entire operation has been a fucking clusterfuck of the highest level. The only thing to come out of it was the surprise of Sophia being here. My eyes scan the crowd for Cain, but I don’t see him anywhere.
Narrowing my eyes, I check again. Where the fuck is he? I don’t need him causing a problem for me.
“Where’s Cain?” I ask Nico.
He shrugs, unconcerned. “Fuck knows. I only care about Sophia.”
“She’s fine,” I growl and then march over to the beta who holds the other key to the lockbox. I haul her to her feet and drag her along to her desk.
“Key.”
“It’s in that drawer and the security alarm tripped the lock. I can’t open it.”
I grip the back of her neck and slam her face on the desk. “Find a way to open it, or the bank will be looking for your replacement. Do you understand me?”
“Y-y-es,” she stammers, terrified.
Good. Now we are getting somewhere.
“Well…” I bark out as she just stands there.
“Shoot it off?” she suggests, her eyes wide.
I nod to Gary, who comes over and fires the handgun at the drawer’s lock. Splinters fly everywhere, but it does the job. I yank it open and pull out the gold key on the chain from the bottom of the drawer and shove it in the beta’s hands.
“Find Cain,” I growl to Nico, and storm off back to the room, with the safety deposit boxes, dragging the beta with me, back to Sophia who is waiting, twisting her hands. Her eyes rake over me when I enter the room and she gives me a wobbly smile.
Her eyes slide over to the bank clerk and then back to me. “I told you earlier that you look hot in that suit, but now I just want to rip it off you and do you right here on this table.”
“Uhm…” I glance down at the black suit I have on, with a black shirt. I’m guessing in a twist of fate, Cain was wearing the same thing and that’s why she mistook me for him, face notwithstanding. I did not know they were shagging or on the verge of shagging. That is intelsomeoneforgot to fill me in on.
“Well, after you’ve got your pretty pearls, put them on and I can make that fantasy come true,” I murmur, staring deep into her eyes.
She breathes in sharply and nods, turning her back to me as she pulls out the key from her bag. She points to the box and I shove the key at the beta and point menacingly at it.
She does as I want, fearful for her life and unlocks the box first before Sophia turns the key in the second lock.
“Don’t you need my ID or something?” she murmurs.
The bank clerk, whose name tag says Sue, glances at me. “All taken care of,” she croaks out and then hurriedly leaves the room before I make good on my threat.
I watch keenly as Sophia opens the box and then smirk, tilting my head as she levels a gun at me that I did not know was in there.
Operation clusterfuck, just went up a notch.
“Who the fuck are you and where is Cain?” she growls at me, making my pants bulge with longing as she holds me at gunpoint, her green eyes flashing with anger.
