Jesus fucking Christ.

On top of all of this, Quinn said something was going down not far from the event that Sophia was going to.Andhe didn’t want me involved. Is he part of this somehow? But why? How? It doesn't make sense. None of it does.

I hear someone hiss my name behind me and cringe.

Nico.

“Cain.”

I stop and turn, ignoring the curious look fake Sophia gives me. “Where is she?”

“She who?” the woman asks, her eyes narrowed.

“Safe. Look, there’s something I need to tell you…” He trails off when he finally looks at the woman and gives her a furious glare. “So that’s how…” he mutters and shakes his head.

The door being bust in and a voice bellowing over the top of us, makes us wince and creep closer to the counter, even though our reflections are clear as day in the grey-tinted windows of the bank. Whoever is out there isn’t looking.

Nico and I exchange a glance. This is not good. Whoever just burst in is not the police, which means we’ve landed right in the middle of something else entirely. This means, the robbers are more powerful than we first thought. It makes it even more feasible that Quinn is involved in this. I can’t trust anyone, not even Nico.

We hear the door open, and then all hell breaks loose on the other side of the counter. Fuck knows where all the security guards are in the swanky bank. Maybe they were part of the heist, as well. It seems to have been left wide open. Glaring at Nico, I turn away from him and start crawling again with him right behind me. “Cain, wait. I can get her out of here, but you need to trust me. Take this one and get out at the back of the bank. There’s a fire exit.It won’t be covered.”

“How do you know?” I snap quietly.

“I’ll tell you later, but getthis oneout, and I’ll get her.”

I find it curious that he doesn’t say her name. Is he trying to keep the fake Sophia from finding out we know she isn’t who she looks like. Granted, she hasn’t actually said her name is Sophia, but I’m not a stupid man. Betting odds are pretty high that I’m right about all of this, Quinn included.

“I’ll text you a location to meet. Trust me; I’ve got this.”

Nico doesn’t wait for me to reply; he just heads off to the end of the counters and stands up, which tells me he is part of this as well, but who is he fooling: them or me?

I guess time will tell.

Sugar

“You have got to be fucking kidding me?” I blurt out after several minutes of stunned silence.

“Nope,” Nico replies.

“So let me get this straight. You are part of an elite task force that has been trying to get to my dad for years. You’ve just infiltrated our pack so you can stab him in the back? You’d better fucking run, Nico because when I tell my dad about this, he is going to skin you alive!”

I slam back into the car seat, arms folded because I’m not going anywhere until he lets me out. I’m locked up in this van while he abducts me.

“I understand that you’re angry,” he says, that sexy Italian accent hitting me where it hurts.

“But it’s not just about your dad. Really, we want him to get to someone else. The bigger fish.”

“Yeah, and who isthat?” I spit out.

He snorts. “I can’t tell you that.”

“Why not? You have just admitted to betraying my dad. Tell me who it’s for?”

“I’ve only told this to you so you would trust me. I’m not trying to abduct you. I’m getting you out of a situation that isn’t safe. The man who threw over the bank, Atlas Philips, he is a very dangerous man. He wants something out of that box that means a lot to him, and this mission, he has to take down your father. I’ve been working with him. Feeding him bits and pieces…making him believe I was betraying your father but for what he could offer me.”

“What’s that then?”
