“Nope.”

"Quinn is going to murder us all the second he sees us,” I mutter under my breath.

“He can try,” Atlas spits out, hatred exuding from every pore in his body.

It’s personal, not just a hatred of our pack and leader.

“You can get fucked as well,” he adds.

“Me? What the fuck did I ever do to you?” We are getting off topic here, but he is clearly pissed off, and I want to know why.

“You had your hand in killing my father,” he says, surprising me.

I frown. “Philips?” I shake my head. “Who was your father?”

Atlas growls. “Christopher Philips. Ring a bell now?”

The name flashes through me like a bolt of lightning. I growl back and reach over to grab Atlas by his shirt front. “That prick was your father?”

“Adopted, yes,” he replies, slapping my hands away from his clothing.

“He deserved it.”

“He didn’t do anything. Quinn came in and rode over him and his pack, ourpack, to gain more power.”

“Is that what you think?” I’m incredulous that he doesn’t know who his father really was.

He grits his teeth. “That is what I know.”

“Oh, you don’t know the half of it. Your father wanted Sophia. He’d been watching her since she was just a teenager. He and Quinn were close, he used that to get closer to Sophia and he tried to force a mate with her. Quinn found out and stopped him before he could get to his daughter, and made sure he would never get his perverted hands on her.”

“Liar!” Atlas’s face is a mask of hatred.

“Truth. He deserved everything he got. No one messes with our pack and gets away with it, and if you come after Sophia, you’re as good as dead.”

We sit in a simmering silence after that. Natalia seems to have shut down completely, but that’s fine. At least she isn’t causing waves.

“How did you know about me?” I ask eventually, curiosity burning through me.

He rolls his eyes. “Saw your face.”

“And you didn’t think to tell me?”

“Why should I? We aren’t brothers. We shared a womb, and then when we were popped out, we were left on the side of the road for the luck of the draw. You seemed to land on your feet, though.” His scoff riles me up. He has no idea the pain and agony I’ve been through.

“Don’t talk about things you have no clue about. You think I got lucky? You think I’ve been with the Quinns since birth? Fuck right off, you fucking presumptuous cunt. Every day of my life up until ten years ago was a shitshow that you can’t even imagine, so don’t you dare think you know me.”

His blue eyes, just like mine, harden, but he keeps his trap shut. Thank fuck, because now we are back at the compound, and we are about to get our arses handed to us — and that’s the best-case scenario. I’m leaning more towards having our throats slit and being dumped in the lake for the fish to eat.

As we pull up, I feel Quinn’s eyes on the van, but I was never branded a coward. With my chin up, I open the van door, only to be confronted with Francesca, who slaps my face so hard that her sharp red nails leave claw marks down my cheek.

“You fuck! Where is she?” she screeches. “Where is she?”

Sugar

When we pull up at our destination, wherever that is, my quiet calm suddenly becomes panic again. I can feel my lungs start to squeeze, and my throat is closing up.
