“You dare to ask me?” he roars, tightening his hold. “I’ll fucking kill you, you prick. If you laid a single finger on her these last few days, you are dead meat.”
“Trent?”
I look over as Quinn turns his head as well. Smiling when I see Sophia sticking her head out of the window quite a few metres away, I give the impression that this isn’t as serious as it looks. I knew there was a danger in coming here so boldly and out of the blue, but I need to cut out on a job, and I wasn’t going without manning up first.
She grins when I catch her eye, and she waves.
“She seems happy to see me,” I murmur like a fool with a death wish when she climbs out of the window, followed closely by an enormous alpha who seems intent on keeping her in the room.
“I know him,” she exclaims to the alpha I recognise as Nico, doing his best to coax her back inside.
She runs up to me, breathless, her cheeks a cute pink, her green eyes sparkling and full of happiness.
“Sophia,” I murmur. “You are well?”
She takes in her dad’s grip on me and frowns fiercely at him.
“Yes, I’m fine. Daddy, get off him.”
“You know this arsehole? From where exactly?”
The menace in his tone causes Sophia to flinch, but she stands up straighter.
“Enzo’s. Trent, as you can see, is another.”
“Another…” Giving her a quizzical stare, I have no idea what she’s talking about.
Her eyes flick to her father’s and then back to me. “Can we talk?”
I give Quinn the courtesy of asking his permission. “May I?”
“I don’t know what the fuck is going on here, but if I find out you had anything to do with her abduction—”
“He didn’t,” Sophia interrupts. “He helped me.”
Quinn’s attitude changes instantly. “Helped you?”
She nods, but leaves it at that. Apparently, she hasn’t told anyone anything about her time away from home.
“Sophia,” Nico murmurs.
“Nico, it’s fine. Daddy, we’re going to talk.”
Nico’s gaze lands on me almost angrily.
Ah, I see it now.
I can also smell it. It’s very faint, as if she has showered, but the underlying scent of Nico coats her skin.
My heart plummets to my feet when I realise what I’ve walked into. Every instinct screams at me to back off, to run away from the omega who is about to break my heart.
She holds out her hand for me to take, which I do without hesitation because those same instincts that are screaming at me to run, are also crying out for me to take her and never let go. Allowing her to lead me into the house via the back door this time, I hear Quinn growl to Nico not to leave us alone for even a second. He follows, not happy about it in the slightest. To my surprise, he doesn’t, in fact, follow us down the hallway, where Sophia takes me into a large sitting room.
“Hi,” she says shyly, letting go of my hand and curling her loose hair behind her ear.
“Hi,” I reply with a soft smirk that makes her pant slightly.
“I’m glad you managed to escape the raid,” she whispers. “I was worried.”
