"Always the protector, aren't you?" he taunts. "She has my father's land in Arachon, and I want it. That's mine by right, but her asshole father stole it by using her. It's mine, I want it, she can give it to me. Simple."
"You are fucking deluded, Marco. If you think you can get past me to reach Rue, you have absolutely no idea what's waiting for you on the other side."
Marco chuckles, "Oh, I'm well aware of what's waiting for me," he says confidently. "But here's the thing, Isaac. I don't plan on going alone." He nods toward a door, and in walks a group of heavily armed men. "I always come prepared."
"So do I," I mutter, taking a step back, my heart pounding in my chest. My eyes flicker from one man to the next, trying to find a weakness.
The rain pounds against the roof of the house, creating a deafening soundtrack to our standoff. For a moment, none of us even breathes, each one waiting for the other to make the first move.
Then Marco grins wickedly. "It doesn't have to be like this, Isaac," he says sweetly, his gun still pointed at me as mine is pointed at him. "We could make a deal."
My mind races, trying to come up with a solution that will save Rue and get me out of here alive. But before I can respond, one of Marco's men lunges forward, his weapon aimed at my head.
Without hesitation, I pull the trigger and fire.
The crack of the gunshot echoes through the house as the man falls to the ground with a thud. For a split second, nobody else moves before they start firing back at me.
Diving for cover behind a nearby couch as bullets whiz past my head, I curse under my breath and, peering around the sofa, I frantically shoot back, taking out two of Marco's men. The room is filled with the sound of gunfire and shouting as we engage in a deadly dance.
Marco is still sitting in his armchair, watching intently with a smirk on his face as if he's enjoying the chaos. Gritting my teeth in frustration, I know I need to take him out now. Cut the head off the snake.
Inhaling deeply, I rise with a fluid motion, and with one swift step, I lunge forward, diving over a table and pulling it down sideways as a barrier. Sliding across the floor to get closer to him, Marco’s eyes widen in surprise, but he quickly regains his composure and fires his gun.
Taking my chance, I shoot, hitting his leg. He screams in pain and drops his gun as he falls back into the chair.
"That's for Rue," I say through gritted teeth.
But I don't have time to celebrate my victory because there are still more men eager to kill me. Clamping Bessie between my teeth as I hunker down behind the table, I have seconds, if that. Digging into my pocket for the last resort option, I pull out the grenade and yank the pin, chucking it over the top of the table and then diving for cover further into the room as the grenade goes off and from behind me, the screams of pain and outrage ring through the air.
The world goes silent for a second, and I catch my breath, my blood coursing through my veins, my ears ringing with the deafening roar of the grenade.
Patting myself down all over, searching for any injuries, I lower my gun when I find that I'm unharmed. Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, something shiny from the outside catches my attention.
Shifting position on the floor so I can get a clear view of the window, I cast a glance behind me to see the carnage the grenade caused. Black smoke makes me choke on the air, but I ignore the dead bodies, and Marco slumped in his chair. Rising to look outside, I find Rue standing there in the pouring rain, soaked to the bone but unafraid.
She is a shadow against the backdrop of shimmering lights as the lightning illuminates her face in flashes of bright white light, followed by black, ominous clouds. Her breathing is even and poised, armed with an automatic weapon that makes my cock hard.
My heart swells in my chest, seeing her there with me at this pivotal moment. My fierce warrior princess has come to join me in the wreckage, and I'm going to find it hard to keep my hands off her. We share a look that says everything we need to say in that moment. She's safe, I've taken care of the immediate danger, and now it's time for us to figure out how to be together.
Without saying a word, Rue approaches me; her gun lowered as she crosses the room. Her soaked clothes cling to her curves as she bends down beside me, checking me over for injuries. Reaching out, I pull her into a tight embrace, my hands roaming over her body as I take in her scent, the feel of her skin against mine, and the sound of rain pummeling against the window.
"I thought I'd lost you," she whispers in my ear, holding onto me tightly.
"No way," I say firmly, my voice thick with emotion. "You can't get rid of me that easily."
A smile tugs at the corners of her lips, and I know everything is going to be okay.
Together, we step outside into the storm, our fingers intertwined as we brave the elements. The world of Solitaire is dark and dangerous, but with each other by our sides, we can face it head-on. As we make our way back to the villa, our hearts beating fiercely in unison, I know that nothing can ever stand between us. We're a force to be reckoned with, a team that can conquer anything that comes our way.
And so we walk onward into the unknown, ready for whatever life throws at us next. Personally, I hope that's a long hot shower and to finally get some sleep. But I know that I can't do that without knowing Rue is safe by my side.
