“Yes,” she rasps, her voice hoarse from the emotion and her rapidly approaching heat. “It’s time. I need to build my nest.”
“I’ll help.”
“No!” She stands up abruptly and pushes past us. “I’ve got this.” She disappears into her bedroom, and I look at Max and Sam.
“This is fast,” I mutter.
“It is,” Max states, sitting on the coffee table. “Really fast. But when you know, you know. And I know.”
“Me too,” Sam says.
“I’ve known all my life that she would be mine,” I murmur, looking over to the bedroom where I can hear her rustling about. “I can’t fucking wait.”
Chapter 31
Lily
My heart races with excitement and nervousness. My heat is coming on strong now, and the urge to nest is overwhelming.
I take a deep breath, inhaling the lingering scents of Jack, Sam, and Max that have permeated my skin already. Their combined scents make me feel safe, protected, and incredibly aroused. My skin tingles with anticipation as I survey the room, my omega instincts kicking into high gear.
I glare at the bed. The sheets and comforter won’t do - they’re not soft enough, not personal enough. I need something more intimate.
I rummage through my closet, pulling out every soft blanket and pillow I own. They’re not much, but they’ll have to do for now. As I arrange them on the bed, creating a soft, cosy base for my nest, I find myself wishing I had more to work with.
“Here.” Jack’s soft voice says from behind me.
I turn to see him holding out his tee, almost begging me with his eyes to take it. I snatch it out of his hand like a greedy bitch and throw him a small smile. “Thanks.” Raking my gaze over his hard pecs and abs, I drool a little bit. He is so fucking hot, I want to climb him like a tree.
To my disappointment, he backs out, leaving me to my nest-building.
Sighing, I bring the tee up to my nose to inhale that earthy rain scent, and I then place the tee in the centre of the nest, smoothing it out lovingly. But it’s not enough. I need more. I need all of them.
Without thinking, I dash out of the bedroom, startling the alphas who are still sitting in my living room.
“Lily?” Jack asks, concern etched on his face. “Are you okay?”
I nod, suddenly feeling shy. “I need something from Max and Sam. For the nest.”
Understanding dawns on their faces. Sam is the first to move, he roots through the bag still sitting in the living room from earlier and pulls out a hoodie with ‘Fire & Rescue’ emblazoned on the front. “Will this do?”
I take it gratefully, inhaling his smoky scent. “It’s perfect. Thank you,”
Max hesitates for a moment before pulling off his casual shirt. “Here,” he says, his voice gruff with emotion. “Take this.”
I accept it, running the soft fabric through my fingers. It smells of bergamot and old books, and I shiver as it affects me in ways I can’t even describe.
I clutch their offerings to my chest, overwhelmed by their willingness to contribute to my nest. “Thank you,” I whisper again before retreating back to the bedroom.
Back in my nest, I carefully arrange their items. Sam’s hoodie goes on one side, Max’s shirt on the other. Their scents mingle in the air, creating a heady aroma that makes my omega purr with contentment.
But it’s still not quite right. I need more softness, more comfort. I bustle back into the living room and grab every throw pillow from my couch, adding them to the nest on my bed.
As I work, my mind wanders to the alphas waiting outside. They’ve been so patient, so understanding. The thought of them seeing my nest, of them joining me in it, sends a tingle of nerves down my spine.
I arrange and rearrange, following my instincts. The nest needs to be perfect, needs to show them how much I care, how much I want this and how much I want them.
Finally, I step back to survey my work. The nest is a cosy circle of soft blankets and pillows, with their personal items strategically placed throughout. It’s not as elaborate as some omega nests I’ve heard about, but it’s mine.
