“Let’s go home,” I say brightly, happy to have gotten my own way. Now all I need is to figure out where I stand with Trey and then I can start to explore this awakening that is happening inside me that I’m more than ready for.

Jerrick leaves me in the entrance hall to file his report about what happened in the Light Fae Palace. I didn’t give him many details on the way home, just the fact that Anders cornered me and did his usual thing. I think it’s more the fact that Jerrick was detained that will cause the uproar seeing as I am unharmed.

I turn as I feel someone’s eyes on me and smile.

“Hi,” I say as Raize waves to me from a few feet away.

“Enjoy the party?” he asks, coming closer.

I shake my head. “Not really.” Okay, so there was the kissing with Trey and then the time with Jerrick afterwards that was amazing, but the party itself sucked.

“Too bad,” he says, staring at my mouth.

I lick my lips and his eyes shoot back up to mine with a wicked glint. Embarrassed, I lower my gaze and focus on a lovely necklace that he is wearing with the pendant of a raven.

He looks down. “Do you like it?” he asks.

“Yes, very much,” I say with a smile and lean forward to lift it up so that I can get a better look.

“I made it myself,” he says.

“Really?” I ask, impressed with his smithing skills.

“With magick,” he adds and bursts out laughing. “I’m afraid I’m not a silversmith by any stretch of the imagination.”

I giggle. “Still beautiful,” I tell him and receive a beam of pride from him.

It fades slightly as my grandfather strides up to us and gives Raize a disdainful glare.

“You may go now, Rook,” he says derisively, giving him a dismissive wave.

Raize gives him a respectful nod and with his head lowered, scampers off. I bite the inside of my lip. Gramps can be so rude to the palace workers.

“Come with me,” he says and stalks off.

I rush to catch up, but then he stops suddenly and faces me with a grim look. “Jerrick informed me of the happenings tonight. I’m upping your guard, my girl. You will have two guards stationed outside your room at night and two to accompany you during the day, along with Jerrick. He will also be intensifying your self-defense training and you will attend advanced magick classes three times a week.”

“Oh,” I say, startled by this sudden regime that has been put into place without my consent. “Is this really necessary?”

“I have to keep you safe, Savannah, by whatever means necessary. I’m aware of Anders’s intentions with regard to your mother and I find it despicable that he is using you to get to her. He will not get near you again; I can promise you that.”

With that said, he stalks off again, leaving me to trail behind with a frown. How on these lands am I supposed to conduct a budding relationship with Jerrick when we are being watched twenty-four, seven? This is a nightmare! Not to mention I’m going to have guards stationed outside of my room like a fucking prisoner.

“Gramps, wait!” I call out, needing to put a stop to this immediately.

He ignores me and enters his office, holding the door open for me. I storm inside, but stop when I see my father, Ambrosia and her mother. I smile at Maurelle, but she gives me a tight one back. It hurts my feelings as we have a good relationship, considering she is both my grandmotherandmy aunt, being Daddy’s sister, and also that she hates my mother with a fierceness that scares me.

It hits me then, that whatever this is, it’s about taking sides and Grams isn’t on mine.

My mouth goes dry and my palms start to sweat as Gramps asks me to sit.

Ambrosia gives me a death stare before she turns her grim look back to her father.

I slip into the chair next to Ambrosia, who takes great pains to move her chair further away from me. I ignore her and focus on Gramps. Having both of us here can only mean one thing.
