“The ravens,” she replies with a puzzled look at me.

“Oh, yeah, fine. I think it might have had to do with you.”

“What do you mean?” She turns to face me, curiosity etched on her face.

“They knew you were up to no good and wanted me to watch out for you,” I say with a knowing look.

She giggles again. I fuckinglovethat sound. I want to make her laugh all day, every day. “Well then, I should pay them extra special attention when I return from my trip to thank them for their concern.”

“You’re going away?” I choke out.

She nods absently but doesn’t say where or why.

I want to interrogate her on when she will be back, but who am I to do that?

“I’ll be back soon,” she says. “Tell the birds I love them.”

Then she’s gone.

“Tellmethat you love me,” I moan, throwing my head back with my eyes closed to wallow in my misery.

One thing that I’m glad of, is that she turned up unexpectedly in the rookery the other day. I’ve always been careful to not be there when she arrives, but it was a lucky break this time. She knows I exist now and that is all I can hope for with her. We will never be together. She is destined for greatness and I’m just the help.

But seeing her smile directed at me, makes it worth the heartache of not being able to touch her, kiss her, make slow love to her before I fuck her senseless.

I will count the hours until she returns, and I get to see her again.

I hope that ‘soon’ means real damn soon.

Bemoaning my hard on, with no real release in sight for it, as I won’t take another woman while I’m sporting an erection that she caused, I head back to my room, as far away from the palace as her grandfather could get me.

Ibarely slept, so I’m up super early and ready, waiting for the others to catch up. I’m as anxious as I’ve ever been.

Finally, I see them trooping towards me, their faces grim, clearly not relishing the prospect of this trip to Earth and into the Vampire’s castle.

I catch Jerrick’s eye and he smiles at me, but I can see that he is tense. The Fae don’t usually go to Earth. They prefer to stay in their own Realm, so I understand their trepidation. If I could tell them all to stay here, then I would. Sadly, no way would Gramps allow that. Or Daddy and Jerrick for that matter.

“Savvie,” Gramps says quietly. “Don’t antagonize her. Tell her this is what you want.”

I nod, relieved that he came to me, even though I’m still pissed about all of this. He could just do it and fuck the consequences.

He disappears then and I hold out my arms. I’m the only one that can transport the five of us to Earth without going through the Faerie Rings.

They grab on and I close my eyes. I’ve never actually moved this many people before, so I’m expecting it to be difficult, but when I open my eyes, we’re standing right where I wanted us to be. Which is outside the huge double front doors of the castle. No way am I’m Puffporting the five us into the castle without an invitation.

I throw my shoulders back and knock.

We wait a few seconds and then one of the doors opens with a suspicious looking Devon on the other side. He grins at me when he sees me.

“Savvie!” he cries. “Thia said you left.”

I fall into his arms and hug him, happy to see his face. He is mother’s Vampire charge and, somehow also her husband now – it’s that heavy magick again, and he is such a blast you can’t help but love him.

“I did,” I say, pulling away from him, “But I need to see Mother. Don’t suppose she’s here?”
