Devon looks over my shoulder at the four huge Dark Fae men standing behind me. “Vito,” he says to my father.

Daddy nods at him.

“Who is it?” an annoyed voice echoes down the hallway and then the owner shows up with a pissed off look on his face, which turns to surprise. “Savannah,” Constantine adds. “Arathia said you’d left.”

I roll my eyes. “I did. I need to see Mother.”

“She isn’t here,” he says. “Vito,” he growls.

“Constantine,” Daddy growls back.

Oh, the hate is still so strong. I feel so awkward being the end product that caused it.

“And three men I don’t know,” he adds grimacing at Jerrick and the two guards.

“They’re with me,” I say unnecessarily. “I know this is a stupid question, but is there any way you can contact her? It’s important.” I know that they can’t, but maybe something has changed in the last few days.

“We have a way,” Devon pipes up. “But it doesn’t work.”

I blink at him as he looks over his shoulder and bellows so loudly, I jump, startled.

“REMIEL! SAVANNAH WANTS HER MOTHER!”

We wait a beat and then the five of us lean forward as one to peer expectantly around the other door and into the Entrance Hall.

Empty.

I sigh.

Devon turns back to me and shrugs. “Sorry. He’s a huge dick about this.”

“May we come in please? I need to keep trying.”

“Of course,” Constantine scoffs. “This is your home.” He drags the other door open and lets us in. “You four, however, stay out of my way.” He gestures to the men and then disappears.

I give Devon a small smile, which he returns.

“Good luck,” he says, his blue eyes flashing with sympathy.

“Thanks,” I mutter as we troop further into the castle.

“I’ll take Jerrick and the guards to the servant’s quarters,” Daddy says to me.

I chew my lip, but don’t say anything. The rooms thatusedto be the servant’s quarters are deep in the castle, dingy, cold and sparse. Daddy likes it down there out of the way. I suppose that’s why he’s taking the guards with him. Although, I’m not pleased that Jerrick will be so far away from me.

“I will see the Princess to her room, and make sure she is safe,” Jerrick says, clearly on the same page as me.

I hide my smile.

“I’ll come and find you later,” Daddy whispers to me.

I grab his hand as he turns to leave. “I’m going to speak to her about you,” I whisper back. “I can’t bear you being so sad anymore.”

He gives me a smile full of sorrow. “Don’t,” he says, shaking his head. “I’m fine.” He pulls away from me and leads the other two terse guards away.

Jerrick grins at me and bows, sweeping his arm out. “Lead the way, my lady.”

I take his hand. Now that we’re finally alone together, I want to kiss him so badly, have his hands on me.
