Jerrick nods at me, accepting the abrupt change in subject. “By the way, Princess. Congratulations,” he says quietly and kisses the top of my head. “I knew it would be you.”

“Maybe me. I need Mother to agree to this first and I fear that I’m not going to be able to convince her.”

“You will,” he says encouragingly.

I give him a loving smile for his support and then he ducks out, leaving me to root through my dresser for my swimsuit.

Ifind my black bikini and quickly whip off my dress and panties to slip into it. I love swimming. We don’t have swimming pools in the Fae Kingdoms. We have lakes and rivers, of course, but nothing in the way of an actual swimming pool. Maybe when I’m Queen, I’ll build one in the palace.

I snicker to myself at that grand thought.

Gotta get past Mother first.

I grab a towel and Puffport down to the indoor swimming pool at the back of the castle. It’s in what used to be the ancient bathing halls. Most of the structure is the original, having been painstakingly, and expensively kept over the years by its then, and current, owner. Except now it has massive windows from floor to ceiling that look out over the grounds to the back, marble floor and, of course, the huge, slightly heated swimming pool.

I drop the towel on the side and then dive in gracefully, swimming a few lengths before I haul myself out and sit on the edge with my feet still dangling in the water.

I squeeze the excess water out of my hair and then take a deep breath.

“Please, Remiel. I really need to see my mother. It’s very important or I wouldn’t ask. I know that you, Delinda and the new baby need her right now and you can have her back as soon as I’ve spoken to her. Please.”

I wait to see if my heartfelt plea brings forth my mother, but sadly it does not.

“Dammit,” I mutter, but ready myself for another try.

I open my mouth but then close it again as a certain Vampire sidles into view with a soft smile and a wave.

“Hi,” Theo says. “I heard you were back.”

I smile at him, conscious that I’m clad only in a tiny bikini. It hasn’t escaped his attention either. I see him struggle to keep eye contact, but they keep dropping to my pebbled nipples, pressing against the cold, wet fabric.

“Hi,” I say loudly, in an effort to get his attention back up to my face. “Do you live here now or something?” I chuckle to take the sting out of my words but come on. Healwaysseems to be here.

He blushes bright red and stammers, “Err, n-no. Bran works here, and I work with Bran…”

“I’m teasing,” I say, letting him off the hook. I know that he is my sister’s husband’s business partner.

“Oh,” he says and laughs nervously.

Then, he holds out a hand to me to help me up, which I take.

He keeps hold of my hand for a few seconds longer than necessary, staring at them with interest as I feel that sensation again. Does he?

He drops my hand and says, “Will you be staying long?”

I shake my head. “I hope not.”

Ifeelhis disappointment along with a dose of hurt, rather than see it on his blank face. I suppose my words weren’t that tactful.

“I mean, I hope that I’ll see my mother soon and convince her to accept my destiny.”

“And what is your destiny, Savannah?” he murmurs, staring at my mouth.

“I guess we’ll see,” I murmur, getting a bit flustered by his lusty look. Suddenly, I realize I’ve been a complete idiot about this. My heart thumps as I say quickly, “I’m sorry, Theo. We’ll catch up later. I’ve…” I don’t even wait to finish my sentence before I scoop up my towel and run headlong out of the bathing hall and into the hallway that leads to the old servants’ quarters.
